Subject: JD S670 combine

Looking at a new S670 considering pro drive vs 3 speed transmission pro and cons on pro drive? We have an 8 row chopping head and when conditions allow like to run 7 - 7.5 mph. We have a 9770 now with 3 speed. My understanding is they have slowed down 2nd gear in that transmission, maybe to about 6.7 mph. Have also heard pro drive takes more Horse power that maybe a 670 can't afford to lose ? I guess anyone out there know for SURE how fast there 670 goes in 2nd gear ?

Probably depends a lot on tires but with our duals we travel 7.2 with an S670 but had 7.8 with the 9770

5 speed feeder house (command touch) should make your decision for you. Would much rather see a chopping head run off of one. 5 speed requires Pro Drive

I can say that it only costs $30,000 to put in a new Pro Drive (thank goodness for Powerguard Warranty). And from my farm, I can be to the big parts depot at Milan, IL in about three hours. It's a nice overnight run, and even got a few hours of shut eye in the pickup waiting for the delearship techs to come in early at 6 am. They gotit out in half a day, and replaced in about a day. But I think it's good to let a combine rest a day and half in the middle of harvest. They work hard!

With this post, I'm glad I do not have pro drive without warranty. Not needed around here.

notice in the picture with the flashlight there is a gear with a missing tooth. When Deere specd those from Sum Tin Rong company Deere required 28 teeth on the gear but the gear they made had 29 teeth ,
so Sum Tin Rong knocked a tooth off to meet the specs.

Thank you for correcting me, but there is a sale that kibble equipment is having soon that has a 670 advertized as pro drive with variable speed feeder house?

Our S660 only ran 7.4 in 2nd until I finally had it with the slow road speed and made a new hole in the hydro connector. It now runs about 8.6 in second and 21 on the road instead of 18. It has been talked about on here before (road speed).

Yep and I don't doubt you do, but that was only for 1 or 2 model years of the 70 series they were separate.
