Woodham, Ontario | I'm surprised they are even trying to get back into this market... We have all green tractors, but not interested in a green baler at all. I did get a new New Holland baler this year so I should be good for 10 years!

Oxford County, ON | We had a 100 baler. I'd be happy to look at another JD large square baler************************

Oxford County, ON | Twine boxes don't seem very big. In the picture below, one thing that really jumped out at me was the angle the driveline takes on the way to the flywheel. I can't tell from the picture: Did they stick a gearbox in or do they expect to keep bearings and u-joints in there? One thing that I did like on the 100 was the pickup, looks like they've kept the castering floatation wheels. I can't understand why more mfgs don't design their pickups with that feature. | Well I wouldn't want to be the first person to buy one. I remember the JD 100 baler, you cant find one for 400+ miles around here that I'm aware of. I would sure hated to been one of those guys that bought one, then they didn't work. I remember a guy that told me he had a lot of input on the design of the 100 baler, he tried to tell me what a great baler it was. Well all he ran was the Freeman big balers, I never saw one on his farm and he bled green. Kind of like the JD telahandlers, JD dropped them like a hot potato as well! Lets see how they last in the market, If I was going to go big balers I would have to go with Hesston/Massey baler tried and proven. Plus parts are available everywhere. This is coming from a guy that pulls a JD round baler. JD better put a lot of them out on demo for a year if they ever want to sell them. Out of all my implements like manure spreaders, etc. JD company has been the worst for not keep parts available. Obsolete is a common term I hear on a lot of JD stuff I've owned over the years. I can't complain about the tractors 30 and 40 series. But some implements good luck on getting some parts, its to the fab. shop you go.

Northwest iowa | The only thing that baler has going for it is an extensive dealer network. But in reality, how many of the techs will be adequately trained to keep it going? For those already running an LSB what would be a reason to switch? Green paint? Will they attempt to run side by side comparisons with other brands? That might be fun, no matter what brand you currently run. Anyone know what color paint is under the green?

Northwest iowa | I thought it was a kuhn, but they have a double plunger system and this Deere doesn't. Maybe they actually developed it in Ottumwa?

| http://hayandforage.com/hay/kuhn-john-deere-pact-balers-0520 Yep, Kuhn is making them. I think they have been selling big square balers with JD paint in other markets for awhile and are just starting selling them in North America now? I think the JD 100 was a Krone design with some modifications. I think they are being very cautious in making sure it's had success in other markets before introducing it to NA to avoid a repeat of the model 100. | |||

| I went there and saw it. I strongly do believe it's not a Kuhn. I asked that question and they told me they bought the rights to the Kuhn. Found out it wasn't working for what they wanted and redesigned a lot of it. I was told its Deeres design. The knotters and blower looked very American. Baler looks well built. I don't remember how much twine it holds but I think it was 34 balls. The applicator they will use is going to be a harvestec. The axles are a spring ride suspension and is hyd controlled. It's controlled through a display, 1800, 2600 or 2630, doesn't matter. They said in testing the knotters out preformed other knotters on the market for missed ties. Something like once every 250 bales it missed. They had charts showing its bale weight consistency, however I never saw the field they baled in nor did i think to ask if it was a straight flat irrigated field that had consistent windrows. The pre cutter looked very well designed. It can get out of the way so it bales the same as one without a cutter if your not using it. The pick up did look very well built, I liked it The doors open up so you can get to the sides and work on it. As far as the angle of the driveline I believe it was a CV at the fly wheel but please don't quote me on that. Seemed like a decent baler. I wasn't around for the 100s but have heard how wonderful they were. I think they will be a tough sell because of that. I have experience with another major brand on the market and won't say it's better but won't say it's worse because I'm in sales and it's all opinion. I like Deere equipment but try to not think they are the golden gift. If you have more questions I'll try and answer them if you want. Like I said I try to remain very in biased and see a guys question before it's answered. Nothing's perfect, doesn't matter what brand it is. I'm not arguing with you, just relaying what I was told. Your article is from 2011. They scrapped that idea, but I'm not clear on whether they have their new baler or the Kuhn one in other markets. | |||

MN | they started out buying the kuhn rights. wanted to put a double knotter on and ended up changing 85% of the machine. it isn't even close to a model 100 baler so get that thought out of your head. it holds 30 bales of twine - 15 per side all on one row. it will be made at the iowa factory. it started out a kuhn design but it isn't any more.
