First post here but we just bought a 7760 cotton picker this summer. I have been researching everything I can about how to run it, issues we need to look for, etc. The next thing we are discussing is what we are going to get to move the round modules around. I know deere sells their model in conjunction with frontier, the fork that picks it up underneath. Also KBH has a 4 prong fork model that sticks into the module. I was trying to figure the best method for moving modules. I'm sure the deere model is expensive. I was hoping y'all could give me some advice on this. Thanks

We don't have a 7760 but everyone here uses the KBH handler. The spears for it are machined about 5 miles from our shop out in the country.

If you are dropping in the field you will definitely want the prongs, the forks from the bottom will pickup stalks and trash you will take to the gin and also tear the wrap from the bales! iIf picking up from the headlands not so much of a problem.

when using the forks underneath the bale does the wrap tear because of the stalk trying to slide in between the wrap and forks or is it caused by something else?

We will probably be dropping in both headland and field. Will just depend on where we are in the field. I'm leaning towards the spear. I'm sure they are much more cheaper as well. We do have some rolling hills it may be easy to use the spears too.

You want the forks. The Fronteer and Amadas have both fallen from favor due to weight (they are heavy) and issues with standing stalks tearing wrap. There was talk that a few machine shops had manufactured the bale spear similar to the KBH at a much reduced price. KBH is around 10K.

How much does one weigh? Is it too much for a pair of regular berlon round bale spears? Never handled cotton but we handle wet wrapped round bales of hay.

Last year was our first with a 7760. We went with the kbh spear. It was by far the cheapest option that we were aware of when we got it and it worked perfectly fine last year.

Ouch.....that seems like a lot for a really big bale spear. Never seen one in person though.

A round bale of cotton I have been told weights 5-6,000 pounds so you need something more than a frontend loader on a tractor

Yeah I think the frontier is around 16k. What size tractor do you need to pick them up with? We were thinking of using our jd 7330 premium but we aren't sure it can handle the weight.

With the modules weighing 5-6000lbs the assuming we have enough weights then it should be fine. But if it gets wet we might have to go with a bigger tractor. Thanks for the help guys

8210 needs a little water in its tank for ballast.
