After much encouragement on this forum, I think I am going to set aside my conservative approach to equipment expense and buy a flex draper to try to speed up soybean harvest. At the local dealer, there is only about a $10K difference from a 2 year old 30' FD70 and a new FD75.

Does anyone have any experience to know what is improved on the FD75? The cost difference from used to new isn't enough, in my opinion, to justify buying the used one instead.

Just went through the same thing. We ended up with two new FD75s. The warranty and the better financing rate bring the prices even closer together, plus you have a new head instead of one that gets rolled every two years. I never ran a FD70, but they claimed they made about 30 improvements if I remember correctly.

For $10K I would definitely go to the FD75. There were only a few actual changes. The rest were cost saving measures.

Changes I know of are:
- Hydraulic lines are run along the rear of the header, rather than the tube(I believe) which makes it much easier to find a leak.
- The chainbox/gearbox cover was changed from black to silver.

Also, mine had PIP/warranty order done on it a couple weeks ago to replace the center canvas motor and flush the hydraulic system. Either the rollers or the bearing in the motor was failing and putting filings into the hydraulic system. Ask if the new head is susceptible and/or updated.

The silver is an aluminum houseing and basically they changed 30 things and most if not all are not a big deal.

The only huge change was from the 970 to fd70

Our 09 fd70 has the hydraulic lines on the rear. The 70 was a huge improvement over the 970s like above.

The gear box cover was changed from plastic to aluminum on 2012 model year FD70s.

I have a 40 ft fd70 with built in header transport and dual knife drive. I can see some good improvements in the 75

The 75 should come factory with the latest "seed saver kit". I strongly suggest having that, installed...new or used on either model.
With my head, the rubber bushings on the "compression rod" don't last because of the weight. The 75 is improved. The 45' 70 had what the 75's have now. I am going to modify/update mine.
