| How necessary are they? I demoed one in grass hay and it just balled up when it was down. I guess maybe in short alfalfa it would be useful? I'm looking at a Kuhn SR110 GII. |

NE Ga | I had a Vermeer 8 wheel (WR 20 I think) that did not work well in either thin or heavy hay. Both sides raised and lowered together. In thick hay it would wad up windrow. Could not make good windrow in thin hay. Was going to put a kicker on, but neighbor bought t it first. In right conditions it was a real time saver. Went back to Deutz rotary been using for many years.

NE Iowa | I have a 8 wheel rake with a center kicker wheel and personally I wouldn't want a rake without it. About 85% of the time I am raking hay that has been tedded. Without the kicker wheel there is a strip in the middle that doesn't get touched by a rake wheel. The baler pick-up may be able to pick up that strip of hay but it won't be as dry as if it had been "fluffed" by a rake wheel. Even if my hay isn't tedded my fields are odd shaped and many time the hay is being raked in a different direction from how it was mowed. Now if you never ted your hay and always rake the same way you cut it the kicker wheel would not be needed. |

| I have a Kuhn SR 110 and kicker if feel kicker wheel is a waste. Doesn't seem to move much hay and at times starts bouncing witch does no good but makes a lot of noise. have tried adjusting spring on it but doesn't seem to make difference |

Central Virginia | I have a SR 110 with a center kicker wheel. It has been a good rake other than the jack broke the first year I had it. The Kuhn is built heavier than the other rakes in their price range. I only use the kicker wheel for tedded hay or when raking a field different from how it was mowed. The kicker wheel makes sure all the hay gets turned over so there are no wet spots hidden on the bottom of the windrows. |
