Kingston, Ohio | alright, i know this is machinery, but i like here better, and you guys bale..
I have a 10 wheel sitrex v rake, and it seems when i get into heavy hay or rake opposite of how the hay was mowed, it wants to plug up. i get these huge balls of hay. There are all kinds of adjustments and settings on the rake, but i cannot find anywhere HOW to adjust it. recommended settings, etc. can't find anything online either. I have had it for a few years, and i am ready to sell the dumb thing. Everyone on here uses these rakes, but i cant seem to get it to work. Frustrated to say the least. oh, and i am leaving a 6' wide windrow out the back. Most of the time i ted everything, even grass, it seems to be easier to rake. I also leave my kicker wheel up, it almost always plugs with it down. Any help would be appreciated! |

Central IL | I've had the same problems with an 8 wheel Sitrex w/ kicker. I was ready to sell it until we started running it behind a tedder. It works a lot better now, but not perfect. Long stemmy alfalfa is the worst.
If it is your only option for raking, you may try lining the underside of the frame with poly or plastic sheeting to keep the hay from catching on the bars. That may get it to the back of the rake without bunching up. |

Sandy Hook, MB | Hello Abmfarms
Is that the 1 with the frame in front of the wheels? I had a 3 PTH mount 10 wheel & got rid of it for that reason. I cut with a 12' haybine & the only swaths that I would double up were second cut alfalfa, first cut were heavy enough. If the swaths were light, it worked like a charm (as long as there was no wind blowing & the swaths were straight). I would travel about 10.5 to 11 miles an hour & on a good 1/2 mile long field I could double up about 21 to 22 acres/hr. But get into a spot where the swaths were a little heavier & it started rolling up some big balls of hay. I think the the ones with the frame behind the wheels are suppose to work better??? |

Kingston, Ohio | yes, it is the one with the frame in front of the wheels. i dont have large fields, and mine are rough, so i only rake about 10 acres an hour. my rake pulls hard on my 60 horse tractor, so i think my ground pressure is too much, but i dont know how to properly set it. |

Sumner GA, Located in southwest GA, | Should be able to adjust the spring pressure and help it lighten up. Biggest choke point with my Tonutti, same basic design I am sure, is in heavy hay, that hay will hit the rake frame and hang up momentarily, enough so that it will catch and start riding up the rear wheels and ball up. I hate to tell you, but the only sure fire cure is going to be trading for a high clearance carted rake. You can bend the rake frame up at the rear and stop some of the catching, and you can drop the outside wheels and run it as an 8 wheel rake and take less, but that is about it. |

Ontario's Middle East | I had a Sitrex 10 wheel like yours and had the same problem. they just cant handle heavy hay. I solved the problem by trading on a Krone rotary. Life is grand. |

sc ia | I use an 8 wheel Sitrex to put two 12ft windrows together and it works O.K. up to about 3 ton an acre. I run the ground pressure light, just enough to pick up the hay. Also, run the wheels as far out on the frame as possible that keeps the V at a steeper angle. And, I set the pivot adjustment to make a real wide windrow (about 6 ft) which helps too. Neighbor has the same rake and he has to make a narrower windrow for his small square baler and that causes him problems like you describe. |

Hennepin, IL | Sounds like you need a hi capacity rake for what you're trying to do, ie the machines with the frame above and behind the wheels. Salesman that sold us ours said we'd be much happier with the hi cap over the carted rake in a 10 wheel. Plus at the time we ran a 12 ft mower and were planning on a 13 so we ended up with a 12 wheel mk series sitrex. We have baled some 7 ft tall crp grass raking two 13 ft windrows together and have yet to plug that machine. |

near dyersville iowa | check your tire pressure. Low tires can cause too much down pressure. |

North central iowa | make sure your wheels are on correctly I worked at an implement and every time a new guy put one together wheels were backwards and would plug every time you used it |
