Montana | We just bought a used 567 baler. I need to add a convenience outlet to our 4430 so I can plug the monitor in. Our JD service guy was nice enough to give us the plug, so we didn't have to buy the rather expensive kit. Now I just need to wire it in. I assume I want to go straight to the battery for the hot wire, correct? Where is the easiest place to find a switched lead? Is 16 gauge wire big enough? Do I need to add a fuse or circuit breaker? mn | Mine comes off the circuit board under the dash on the left side then hangs out on the top right side. If you have the John Deere one with 3 prongs, one should be ground, one switched power and one constant power. Use the same size wire that comes with the plug. | ||

Go off battery with two 12 gauge wires, put a 25 amp fuse within 6 inches of where you attach the wire to the battery. Under the dash split the hot wire into two wires and for the switched wire use a car alarm relay(any auto part store should have one). On the left side of the dash there should be a circuit breaker box, tie into the switched side to run the coil on the relay. You want the power going the outlet to be as direct as possible because the baler cannot have very much voltage drop. I wired a 4440 this way. It was converted to two 12 volt batteries. If your 4430 has not been converted you have to make sure your pulling 12 volts off battery not 6 volts. I'm not sure but you might have to pull ground from one battery and positive off other battery. Edited by Dickefarms 6/24/2014 20:00 | |||

Local dealer told me that even newer tractors with factory installed outlets are having problems with baler monitors and they sometimes have to direct wire them to the battery. This was the case with my Agco Allis 9745 with a JD 566 baler. I wired a power bar the way i described and my low voltage warning went away. Mark | |||

central ohio | Definitely don't use 16 gauge wire. Not near big enough. Will drain your batteries down. Those balers suck lots of juice. Had that problem with my 467. After I switched to 12 gauge problem went away. | ||

Definitely get lots of power to the baler. I've seen balers do strange things if the voltage isn't there. Use at least 12 ga wire. | |||

Farmington IL | This is a 4630. I have done 7 tractors. This female plug is available from deere for about $50. Wires are long enough to reach the circuit breakers. Mounts pretty simply on the cowl. Use it for many applications from the 567 baler to running my I-pod to charging my phone. | ||

North Central Kansas | Here's where I put the outlets in our 4440. The harness I made goes out throughout the bottom corner of the cab and to some relays and a fuse block I mounted behind the plastic kick plate by where your left foot rests. Is it necessary to run the switched wire to the battery as well? Does the monitor pull high amperage off the switched terminal? | ||
