Have a JD4955 that I cultivate with, seems to suck dust like crazy and I clean the air filter daily. Would a turbo II precleaner on the air I take stack help? Who has one and what do you think of it?? And where do I buy them?

Liberty, MO | I've used them on a 2-105 White for years, and used one on an 8600 White combine, bean fuzz and milkweed fuzz gave me fits before putting it on, still had to clean filter, just not as often, helps to raise the air intake 3 or 4 feet above hood if possible.

Ontario's Middle East | had one on a 4240 years ago. Not perfect but worth the money. I don't remember the price.

NEND | Shoup sells them, make sure you get the one that's rated adequate for your tractor. Probably about $300 for that tractor.

If you want the best pre-cleaner, get one with an exhaust ejector. Donaldson is my first choice. http://www.donaldson.com/en/engine/support/datalibrary/074396.pdf The Turbo II will help, but watch out for the pre-cleaners that dump the dirt right above the intake. They will suck much of the pre-cleaned dirt right back into the air cleaner if the vehicle is not moving fast enough to blow it away. That is a stupid application for any slow moving vehicle. The original Turbo pre-cleaner did that, and I am disappointed that Donaldson recently introduced a few pre-cleaners like that. Donaldson has dealers almost everywhere.

south central kansas | they help quiet a bit. Like previous poster says the exhaust ones work a little better but I have also heard stories of something going wrong with them and sucking exhaust in your engine. We have lots of dust and usually I don't have to clean air filter till I change oil. (DSC_0122 (2).JPG) Attachments ---------------- DSC_0122 (2).JPG (128KB - 154 downloads)

Washington Co Ks | I've had a TurboII on a few tractors and combines. They do a pretty good job. The exhaust ejectors work good at higher ROMs however I had one on a tractor that I used for chores in the winter that would apparently suck exhaust into the intake. It was fine doing field work but when used for chores I would run at lower RPMs and it would idle a lot and the filter would turn black in a very short time.

NC Kansas | Here's a company I found one day. Seems they cover a lot of applications! http://www.enginaire.com/

Remsen, Iowa | The Donaldson web site from above shows a check valve for the ejector hose that feeds into the exhaust to prevent that from happening.

I know a guy that had to overhaul his combine engine last year because the exhaust burned a hole in his air filter. Dusted that engine pretty good

You have to do it right. The check valve is required. I have two spreaders with exhaust ejector pre-cleaners and I eventually either clean or replace the air filters when I can no longer stand not doing it. The restriction indicators never come close to the service point. I realize that a spreader is not usually in the trash and dirt like a combine, but the difference in cleaning time is huge. I do buy the expensive Donaldson service by restriction air cleaner elements, not the standard ones that you can get at the parts store.
