NW IOWA | Any one have any trouble with Fierce chemical damage on beans? Beans are black and curled up. Looks like they were sprayed with Cobra when it was 100 deg! They were sprayed right behind the planter just like they were supposed to.

West Central Illinois | Was it Fierce alone? I just talked to a neighbor who had severe damage from Fierce/Valor combo sprayed right behind the planter. Symptoms were browning of the stem and cotyledon at emergence. Many plants died. Remainder have brown, pinched stems. Edited by GregWCIL 6/5/2014 17:39

I wouldn't single out fierce many PPO's causing some issues. You just here more about it because more being used than ever before.

King City, Mo | All herbicides have effect on the crop. Beans are a large seeded broadleaf, corn is a grass, twh is small seeded broadleaf, shatter cane is a grass, burs and sunflowers are broadleaf's. U of Mo has a book that shows herbicide damage and also has a really good weed seedling id in it. Valor, fierce, authority, sonic can all cause issues. Prowl, sencor, classic, first rate, can cause issues in the right circumstances. even roundup can cause yellow flash in soybeans.

West Central Illinois | Perhaps I misunderstood what he meant. He said they use Valor and Fierce. I assumed it was a tank mix, Maybe they were used separately in different fields. They replanted less than half, but are on hold now since we had over 3 inches of rain in that area the last week.

West Central Illinois | They did replant some. They were on the fence about other fields. Had 3 in. of rain in that area, so they have more time to reevaluate now. It would be a tough decision. Hopefully the rain will give them new vigor.

Pilot Grove, Missouri | The only trouble I have ever had is if there is no rain between application and emergence, and heavy rain after emergence will splash some chemical on the beans and they will yellow for a while. They have always grown out of it and have never noticed any difference in yeild. Patrick

SWOH | Were you spraying any corn ground with the sprayer before that? Did you have anything tank mixed with the Fierce? What rate did you use? How big are the beans? Did you get a good rain on it between spraying and emergence? I sprayed a little bit of Fierce last year and a lot this year in front of the planter in some fields and right behind the planter in other fields and I haven't seen any issues yet. I hadn't used much Valor before that so I was a little nervous about it. I had issues with Sonic last year right behind the planter. I typically try to put Fierce or Sonic on before the planter if I can.

Danville, IL | Have seen a lot of issues with all PPO herbicides in my area. If you had cold and wet weather made it worse. Talk to your fertilizer rep and have them look at it.

Northern Nebraska | Maybe that was his problem, doubling up on his valor. Especially after the planter.

Central Arkansas | I've heard reports from SE Arkansas that tens of thousands of acres of early planted soybeans died from Fierce damage and had to be replanted.
