nesd | There's a CIH1896 open station on an auction. Wondering about the good and bad of that model. It has front assist and a loader w about 4500 hours. Would be used mostly in the summer for haying. |

north-central Indiana west of Fulton | It has a Cummins engine (5.9) which is good....but the Case power shift, I don't feel, is loader friendly. |

eastern sd | We have an 1896 and several 2096's and we used to have a 2294 with a loader which is pretty similar. We used to have a lot more 2096's but they have been mostly replaced with 7110's so I am kind of spoiled now but I really did not like those 96 series. The only good thing about having one on a loader is that it is easy to go from 1 powershift to reverse quickly but that's about it. We constantly battled with powershift solenoids in these tractors and I have a feeling that an open station would make that problem worse. The 1896 is the loudest tractor I have ever stood beside while it is idled up, I don't think I could listen to that thing all day without a cab. There are two benefits however that I can think of to not having a cab 1. Don't have to have the A/C constantly dump water on you and everything else in the cab because the drains always get plugged 2. The cab reduces a massive amount of visibility so I would guess that an open station would have much better visibility but you will still be tucked down in between the tires pretty far. I cant say for sure but I would venture to guess that the turning radius on an mfd of this model isn't too great which might make loader work and haying difficult. One nice thing about mfd however is that you don't have the problem of losing the entire front wheel into a badger hole while picking bales which is what happened a lot in our 2wd 2294. This is just my opinion I don't mean to sway you one way or another but I like getting a chance to vent about how much I hate 2096's lol sorry. |
