Nova Scotia | Who's run them? Loved them, hated them? Problems? Reliable or not? |

SE MN | Overall, not a bad tractor.
Downside....
The power is not very "snappy" unlike the newer engines. No 540. |

SE SD | I like mine. Depends what you are going to use it for. I plant and spray and occasionally use mine for tillage. If mfwd and is set on sixty inch centers they won't turn very short. Power steering is weak if used for loader work. Mine has plenty of power and is not to bad on fuel. Not the greatest starter in really cold weather although I've had people tell me theirs starts great in the cold. No power shift but I get by, one less thing to break. Simple, not to hard to work on. Parts seem readily available, not that I've needed a lot. About half price of a red or green model of the same vintage. Hard to find a nice one that has been taken care of, they can cavitate if the coolant isn't taken care of. |

NE WI | 540 can be added with the gears out of a TW 10 or TW 20 if needed. Dual power is solid but sometimes the switch in the floor can go bad or the solnoid goes bad. Add a small oil cooler to the power steering as it will greatly enhance its life of the pump. We have a TW 30 and its going on its second power steering pump in 6000 hours.

WC Illinois/SE Iowa | Have had my TW-25 since December. It is my first tractor. I chose it for two reasons. One, my family was all Fords when we were farming and we had a TW-30 and TW-35 at that time. And two, it was less expensive for my first tractor than a JD or IH for the same hp. I chose the 25 instead of a 35 for the 540 pto. Didn't know that could be retrofitted, as stated above. So far I like mine. Has a few hydraulic leaks that are getting fixed tomorrow. I bought a TA-45 Westendorf loader for it and it works great on it. Mine is a fwa. The only downside I have found so far is that I intend to use it for planting and with 20.8 tires, there is no 30" spacing. I will be REAL close to the row as I plant, but eventually I will get 18.4 tires to make this problem go away. I also am going to use it for haying. It will also be used to pull a 15ft Aerway in the fall and maybe the neighbor's grain cart. So far this winter being the coldest on record, I never had a problem with it starting. Even if it was sitting for a few days. I put a new cab interior in it and it looks great. All it needs now is a little rubbing compound to brighten the paint job up a bit. |

| Never ran a TW35 but my dad has a TW10 and TW20. I don't really like either one. They do run decent and are reliable but that's about it. They are by far noisier in the cab than anything on the place. The open center hydraulics kind of suck and limit you on a few options, the 20 one remote will only open half way if you are lucky so it's about useless, dad is too cheap to have the dealer pull it and too hard for him to pull it. The 20 has had constant internal leaks with the dual power. Both have taken power steering pumps. The 10 has an axle seal that leaked, had the housing off and to the dealer, still leaks. The operation of the 3 pt is crude. It doesn't slow to a stop on the way up, it goes the same speed then abruptly stops. Both of them eat fuel, the 20 will suck almost twice as much per acre compared to my 8440. Seems the tie rod ends always need changed, could be the ones dad buys though. The axle pins are welded to the front axle so now that they are worn they can't be changed. From what I have seen the parts are more expensive from the dealer than even deere parts. I dont like the dry clutch but haven't had any problems yet. I don't like the dual wheel set up on either. The 10 had s those big bell cast hubs and zero offset rims. The 20 has the clamp on 8 bolt hubs. Neither will swap with the deere or IH wheels. I think that's the most of the bad.
They do drive decent, roomy cab if that makes a difference. Run smooth. And like I said the two I have run are 10 and 20 not a 35. Maybe it's newer and better?
Edit. Oh, and the dealer says there is some shaft for the front drive on the MFWD tractors that goes out and you can't get any more. That was all the more I paid attention though.
Edit edit: Forgot to include that the air does not work on either tractor, parts were non existent from the dealer and hard enough to locate other places I gave up. The old guy doesn't seem to mind.

| I had a TW25 with a loader for a good 10 years. When I had the tractor I liked it and got along pretty good. The long nose takes some getting used to, and I didn't much care for a separate brake system, with special brake oil, and a separate power steering pump and reservoir that tended to leak. I'm not sure if the 35's were all separate too or if some of those systems were integrated. The tranny is simple enough and the dual power really work as it should. Engines were very good as long as you changed the coolant conditioner filter. Should add that the 35 had an intercooler, the 25 didn't

SE SD | The 35 brakes are part of the hydraulic system, a much better system. It's easy to add 540 pto to tw 35, I did it on mine. Easy to go to 18.4 42 rubber in place of 20.8 38, did that also. Cab on the 35 is much improved over the tw 10 or 20, assuming you get the new style cab that came in 1986 I think. |

Pulaski, TN | How did you change from the 20.8 38 to the 18.4 42's? I need to do this. Thanks! |

midwest | We have had lots of Fords. The good is they are reasonably reliable, cheaper to buy, decent on fuel.
The bad is parts are a little harder to find and expensive, Also always had trouble with the power steering pumps as mentioned above. The electric and hydraulic systems can't really support the modern planting equipment.
The worst problems are oil leaks. I've never had a Ford that didn't have leaks, my neighbors all agree. Fight oil leaks all the time.
Also, on a two wheel drive TW, the ride is very rough. |

SE SD | Just get some drop center rims, I got them from the local tire place, and use mounting hardware of a non power adjust Ford tractor. I'll post some pics later today. |
