SW Michigan | We run the JD 4 inch twisted hard surfaced points, but have had some trouble with them bending back before the hard surface is wore off, which then you can't flip it until you put in press and straighten out a bit. We can get 200-300 acres on a flip if we are in clay, sand, not so much. We have tried the Schoup points but tend to break for us, and the Nichols we don't seem to get the run time out of before shot. Just wondering what you guys have found. |

west central wisconsin | Wef have heavy soils, and have used 2, 3, and 4 inch. Our favorite is the 2 inch heavy spike. They move the least residue, and last the longest. We tend to chisel plow deep, kinda more like ripping, or a cross between the two. If we hold our speed down, the 2 inch spikes leave a fairly level surface, compared to the 4 inch twisted. As with most things, it is different for everyone, here, we have mostly HEL, heavy soils. |

northeastern Ohio | Weise was my preferred brand back when we used to chisel. It's been 20 years, so I have no idea if they still make a good one or not: http://www.wieseindustries.com/twisted-chisels_p_-1,75,57.cfm |

Mid-Michigan | we use the 4 inch twist. no hard surface |

Michigan | We ran the shoup 4" twist. Seemed they were a bit longer which caused them to last a little longer, plus a lot cheaper than deere. In our soils they are all going to wear out so we just buy on price. |

Western Wisconsin | Currently we have a set of Norwest spikes that are forged with bolt protectors and have chrome caps on both ends. I think they are around 3" wide. Went with this since we have really sandy soil and cheaper spikes or twisted points just disappear. I'm guessing we have ran over 600 acres and haven't seen a reason to flip them over yet. |
