Planning to acid-wash two aluminum stock trailers this weekend.
Local NAPA sold me couple gallons of their product.
Any tricks or advice on how to best utilize? I've heard horror stories of streaking as a result of improper use.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I like "purple power" . Brush or rub on, power wash off. I also use a foam ball on a drill for rims and hard to get to spots. I get it all at my local NAPA

we use hot water seems to work the best for us, we put it in a garden sprayer and mix it with some water and spray on sometimes a few times in the same area, wait till it turns white and rinse off, pretty simple. I think the people with streaking problems didn't rinse it before it dried and didn't try and re acid it again.

Like others mentioned start at the bottom and work your way up. When your rinse off start at the top and work your way down. Dont let it dry on you. Hot water will work better than cold water, cuts throught the grim better.

I would wear gloves if you rub it on by hand or you will find every cut you have on your fingers. Put plenty of hot water with it also

Haven't tried it but heard this works pretty good and is made from corn and soybean. So its a pretty green product.

Be sure to use a flat fan nozzle. The acid we use is from Kartcher and it works really well. Key is like said above is don't let it dry. And if possible work inside or out of sun.

I wouldn't use anything but a citric acid on my alluminun trailers, they look like new again and don't have that bleached white look to them, they will actually shine when done with citric acid, it smells like lemon or lime. Terry

Bullhauler: I have some food grade citric acid on hand. What blend do you use?

Wi

Citric acid is very popular for doing cattle pots.

The other good acids are Hydroflouric/Sulfuric mixtures.

Don't spray it on anything thats polished.

Pressure wash the trailer first. You will get streaking from dirt that is on there.

Making sure to agitate it a bit will help avoid streaking and do not let it dry. Work in small sections.

Dilution for the product I use is up to 1 part acid 100 parts water. I use double mist sprayers for small stuff and a backpack sprayer for the big stuff. It will ruin a lot of sprayers not rated for harsh chemicals though.

Acid will whiten whatever you put it on so if it's nasty and oxidized then go for it. If you want a polished look don't.
