Getting a transmission light on the 2955 below 1600 RPMs. Have checked the suction screen and changed the filter. Ordered a original john deere technical manual but no real trouble shooting section. Guess I need to know where to go from here. Going to check bypass valve according to another source but feel like I have a internal leak. Where can I find the trouble shooting information to get proper flow and pressure readings and where to take them.

Check wiring to pressure switches while you're looking everything over.

Tech manual should have the places and pressures to check everything. If a powershift transmission, I would be having whoever is going to repair it put gauges on it and check all the pressures. That way they diagnose its problems and are responsible for the repair start to finish.

You could change the sending unit just to see what happens. We did that on a 4440 one time and it still works fine today (15 years later). My Grandad would not be happy with this repair procedure but we find it cheaper than labor looking for a problem quite often. You could also try and find the ohm readings the sensor is supposed to put out at certain pressures and see if it appears to be functioning correctly with an ohm meter. This "should" be in the repair manual. Myself I'd change the sending unit/sensor first because I'm lazy. :-) Good luck to you.

check charge pressure at main pump

under the shift cover are some bigger tubes, its not uncommon for them to crack. oil is pumped back into sump instead of going to main pump.

Ran through the gate today when the hydraulic clutch did not work. It is either low flow or low volume. I guess I am going to take it to John Deere dealer unless I can find someone that can handle the job. Does not look good.

Clutch is not hydraulic.

It is operated with a master/slave cylinder. Master cylinder by the pedal-not connected to the hydraulic system at all. I have read that thy are prone to problems, but have never had an issue with the 2955 I have. Slave cylinder by the throwout bearing operating an ordinary dry clutch.

I did have to have the 2 speed unit resealed, it was leaking oil past somewhere inside but that's been long enough ago I don't recall the symptoms.

Edit-Only applies to a tractor with SGB or 4 post ROPS. Ours is a 4 post. Low profile would be mechanical linkage from the pedal, but still a dry clutch. Possible clutch disc came apart, or pressure plate failed.

Light started coming on on my 2940 a while back at about the same rpm. Figured out it only does it with the hi-lo in high. Have a guy working on it now. The clutch master cylinder is under the cowling in front of the steering wheel. On the 55 series the slave cylinder is internal and tractor will have to be split to replace it. Patrick

Okay, So why did the clutch freeze this afternoon? Does the charge pump drive off clutch ect. I am confused why the clutch started to act up. Stuff like this makes me crazy.

Probably just a coincidence. Not sure. Patrick
