| Always thought these tractors look neat. Don't see very many anymore? Stumbled on to one today that looks good for its age. Kind of starting to interest me. What are they worth? Should I pursue or run away?? |

NW Central Ohio | ...It depends on how mechanically inclined you are...and whether you are going to use it for you "Primary" tillage tractor. It's worth in the neighborhood of $7000-$10,000 if it in pristine shape. But it doesn't have any power shift or torque amplifyer like the 2 wheel drive tractors (unless someone installed one after buying it). It has weak differentials...you have to watch how you pull it, too much weight being placed on the rear differential will overheat it and cause it to fail. The transfer case has the two speed in it...and if you run it in high range in the field...you'll be pulling it out to fix a bearing that was undersized. I spent 25 years fixing the damn things for my father, and I can tell you one thing, I never breathed a bigger sigh of relief than the day my 7230 appeared on the farm. |

Strasburg North Dakota | I hope you don't plan on using it . The visibility out of them is terrible. Neat for a collectible though. |

N.C. ND | We had a new one when they came out,all of the things already said plus the hyd.pump went out.i remember my dad coming home one day saying "we should take out the seat and put in a saddle" it was pretty much a disaster..traded for a 4366 a little better.

sw MN | Do not buy it to use it. It would be hard to pick a worse tractor to use and keep running. Buy anything else.
Only buy it to fill up the shed. It is worth $170/ton |

Eastern North Carolina | Get us some pictures of it. Does it have the ROPS outside of the cab?
Chain it down to a dedicated trailer so you won't have to unload it and take it to the Christmas parades, tractor shows, Ag day at school, etc... I alway thought the 4100's were neat tractors, but then I was only nine years old at that time...

| Kind of neat tractor, I'm from the 1206 era, still use one for side dressing. If I had the room in the shed I'd have one for the grain cart. Sit up high, 4wd and PTO, low compaction and low cost - what's wrong with that? I wouldn't be afraid of it at all. |

Sac & Story county IA | A friend had a 4366. Multiple breakdowns, very close together. When he did trade it off, he wanted to borrow hose so as not to drive it 200 feet to pump fuel back out of it into tank because it might break again. |

| 4166 doesn't even sit up that high. Not a whole lot there to love, but collectible. |

| SouthCloudImp - You have to keep in mind when the 4100's came out, Deere was only a few years away from 2 cylinders and if Deere didn't make it - it was no good, not approved. Never did think a bend in the middle tractor was pleasant to drive - on land plow, turn left, rear end goes right, sweat running down my back. PIA |

| Ran one for a few years, cant think of a much worse more uncomfortable tractor than a 4166. Short wheelbase, poor visibility, terrible cab, rough riding. Plan on pulling transmission and transfer case out every year to fix a bearing. I am a diehard IH guy and you would have to pay ME to ever own one of these things. |

4366 and 4166 are completely different tractors. 4166 is a rigid frame 4wd built in the Farmall Plant, 4366 is a articulated Steiger built tractor. 4366 is a good tractor, ran one for 20+ years with very little problems. Were lots of them here in the day and were reliable tractors and still quite a few 4366 and 4386's still working today. Yes they were crude compared to today but compared to other mid-70's 4wds were on par. |

| Most would say that the axles and rear ends in them were a little light. Still a few running around here, but not too many. I hope I have good luck with my old crab steer CASEIH. |

| I agree with other posters about walking away from this tractor if to use. If you really want a tractor of that style and era to use, get a 1470 Case. They are rigid frame, 145 hp and will be more dependable. I agree all these type tractors would be sought by collectors now and somewhat hard to find. We ran a 4100 for about 5 -6 years when I was a kid and there are a lot problems with that tractor. A dealer offered my Dad a new 4166 bare back for 23000 in 1973 0r 1974, He bought a used Versatile instead and it worked out well. The Cummins engine would do 2x work the 4100 was doing on less fuel per day, was not long and the 4100 left as well. FWIW |
