 Dalton, OH | Jason,
I just traded for my third Krone baler last week. The first two were 88's (the model before the 890's) and I traded for a 2008 890 with X-cut. I put about 8,000 bales through the baler per year of everything from dry hay to all mositures of baleage and even a little straw. It works excellent and I have had very few problems with the baler. My local dealer now has at least 10 maybe even more of these baler's out with excellent results. On the baler I just traded I only missed two knots with it all year other than when I might have had a knot come apart in the twine box (I need to learn to tie better knots!!). My dealer is also a New Holland dealer and they hardly sell any NH baler's anymore. As far as Hesston's, I know they have traded a couple, but I haven't spoke with any of the owners personally. I am good friends with a person who runs a Hesston just like mine and has run some of the Hesston prototype balers. We have run in the same field a few times and there really is very little difference between the two baler's. I will say one thing that I did notice is when he would plug his baler, he had to get out and dig it out and replace a shear pin. I have never done that on any of my Krone balers. One, there is no shear pin and two, it will unplug itself. Any other questions, feel free to post or email me. No I do not work for Krone before anybody asks.

NECO | Personally i dont like krone balers, or the local krone dealer, so my vote goes for hesston, in my opinion its a way better machine, they have more experience with big balers... i do like Krone balers for ONE reason only..they give ME work when they break down! |

S.E.South Dakota | A friend of mine runs two Krone balers. He really likes them. The reason he went to them was for the muilt pack system. He can get little bales but still handle big ones. |

Dalton, OH | Just curious what you like better about a Hesston? Most people say they are easier to work on because of all of the chains that drive things. Honestly, Hesston does have a little more expeirence, but if it wasn't for Krone, they wouldn't have developed the higher capacity baler they are currently selling. Just some info I got from the neighbor who works with the engineers. I will say dealer support on any baler is the key. My Krone dealer is the best dealer around for parts and service and my Hesston dealer the worst. If your Hesston dealer is better, go with a Hesston.

Ontario Canada | Scott u say that that Krone baler will not plug or will it will unplug itself how so? With my Hesston I spin the flywheel back and that works sometime, I do have to dig sometimes two. Do u have an problems with gear box?because there r no chains ?Is there and onboad hyd for the chamber? The dealer said the knotter r the same as Hesston which is a good . U say that u have baled beside a Hesston could u go fast then it or the same? I told the dealer is wanted the see the baler in the feild or try it out. Krone is new to Ontario, dealers have just started popping up in like the last 5-6 years so I don't know how good the part departmeat would be . THANKS |

NECO | I like the whole machine--i dont like the shaft drive everything personally..but the new style agco balers have made some night/day changes compared to the old 4910 models. The krone around here i observed a bit, when it wasnt broken down, it just wasnt baling very fast..i dont know if it was operators choice, or if its capacity was maxed out. |

Dalton, OH | The Krone baler will plug just like a Hesston, but it will unplug itself. When you plug it, you throttle back or disengage the PTO. The machine winds down and just before it stops it reengages and pulls the plug right through. There is a spring-like mechanism that does all of this. I have never had any trouble with this and it has worked every time I needed it. I never get out of the seat of the tractor. Occasionally, if it doesn't go on the first time, I realease the pressure on the bale chamber and try again.
The gear boxes are excellent. My neighbor who runs a Hesston changes all of his chains every year. I change the oil in the gear boxes every year which is very simple and use 80/90 wieght gear oil. As far as longevity, I have not had any gearbox problems on either baler and both had right at 15,000 bales on them when I traded them. To my knowledge, the only gearbox issue my dealer has ever had with a baler was when a customer ran a wooden fencepost in the baler. It messed up the cutter gear box. The dealer had the parts by the next day for the gear box and the customer was up and running in less than 24 hours after he broke down.
As far as onboard hydraulics, the older series 88's had onboard hydraulics for the chamber. I think they still use this setup on the 890's, but can't say for sure as I haven't checked mine out yet. They use Hesston knotters, just like New Holland does and they work great.
When I baled beside my neighbor's Hesston the Krone had slightly more capacity, but my neighbor has the previous model to the current Hesston series where now they claim a higher capacity. I would suspect they now have just about identical capacity until you plug them and then you would be digging out the Hesston while the Krone was still baling.
Krone should want you to demo that baler from your dealer before you buy it. They are an excellent company to work with and they do a very good job with parts. Their main North American headquarters is in Memphis, Tennissee. Here in Ohio if you have your parts order in by 5 or sometimes even 6 o'clock it will be at your dealer the next morning.
Feel free to email me with any other questions you may have.
