Subject: Adding net wrap to exsisting baler

North Carolina
I,ve got a 457 JD baler and would love to add net wrap to it my computer in the cab has the button to switch it from twine to net.
dealer say the net wrap attachment is around $5000 and is a b$%#^ to install . I was wanting to install it myself and he said
I would be better off trading balers so I said was the deal hears what he gave me . $9000 for mine $26000 for a new one. Heck I only
got 3000 bales on my 457 I thought he was crazy.

So have any of you ever put on the net wrap attachment if so was it that hard to do.

PS really like to find a used one like someone who bought a 457 with net wrap at a auction and did not want the net wrap.

thanks

I think your salesman is just trying to do his job....be a salesman. My brother and I put netwrap on my uncle's 567. It was sure easy for us, but we do a lot of that type of work too. Book came with the kit and clearly laid out the steps for the install. Took us less than a day to do it. I think we gave $4500 but it was worth every penny.

we pulled one off of a 566 and put it on to our 566, wasn't to bad of a job. However, the JD netwrap system is terrible we have had more trouble with it than I can tell you. The JD dealer north of me specializes in JD round rollers and had a tech who is super knowledgable about working on them, who also has a small haying operation. One day when he was out working on ours I asked if he had the same trouble on his netwrap as we did and his reply was " I work on netwrap all day long, I sure don't wont to work on it when I get home so thats why I don't have it on my own baler". Maybe the new cover edge system is better.

How can it be that bad, maybe he is that bad at his job. It is such a simple design. Never added one and probably wouldn't. Its like turning a tennis shoe into a rollerskate and wanting warranty for it because the wheel fell of cause you didn't tighten it right. When they make a net wrap baler they look for things that might catch the wrap like weld spackle but when they make a twine only baler why would they. good luck with the transition.

Purchased a 566 about 7 years ago it didn't have net wrap on it so in the deal we got them to add net wrap. At the time I thought the dealer had some good mechanics. I worked and fooled with that thing that whole summer they even sent 2 different mechanics out more than once with no luck. So I made up my mind this thing was going to work. Finally I got to reading the owners manual and non of the settings where set right on the roller. Took about 2 or 3 hours set all the settings on it. Still have it today and still runs like a sewing machine. Have not had to do anything to it except add wrap and give it the gas.

The net wrap never touches anything on the baler that existed before you put the kit on besides the belts. Ours has been seamless since day one. Have had it come around the rubber roller 2-3 times but it was extremely hot those days. Just make sure you use plenty of baby powder on it. Only thing you have to really worry about is if the baler sits outside in the spring you might have to take a wire wheel to the tray.
