NE AR
Brought up in another thread got me to wondering how many have tried the kit to change away from the Caps pump and how well things have worked out. Seems like when the kit first came out there were a few bugs being talked about.

I made my own conversion kit and it worked really well.

I looked into it for our mx285, it was about $8000.00 if I could remember. They changed them to a cable control throttle. We didn't go for it for a few guys said they where hard starting after conversion and not as peppy. We spent the $4000.00 and put on another CAPS, all I can say I have never seen a tractor pull and lug like the 285 after she was all fixed up.

I heard once that you can buy the caps pump from Cummins for far less money than from CaseIH. Does anyone know anything about this?

I checked with our cummins dealer when we did ours and was $1000.00 more.

Soutwest Ks.

I have also heard that there is a place that is rebuilding them for a lot less money.  From what I understand a very inexpensive part fails in those pumps making them nonfunctional.  I would like to know more about that though.  Information I had was very sketchy.

Caraway, AR

I need education: A P pump is a mechanical pump like a 8950? yes/no. Then you also change injectors? or what. Do away with the common rail system?

How much HP would you get after the change? What would be involved in the change, other than the pump.

Thanks,

John

NOT common rail, these are tractors built before that.  Yes, it essentially reverts them to what an 8950 fuel system was.

Dad has his let go in his combine this fall. Found a diesel place in Illinois that does them. I forget who, but if you search for my posts, it happened on Thanksgiving last fall. I know I posted the name of the company.

IF I remember right you remove the first letter on the part number on the Case part number than that is the cummins part number and it was cheaper for us

Good luck

Found a diesel shop in NW Ind that sent it to Georgia, Wouldn't tell me where. Tested., found problems and fixed for less than half of what new Holland wanted. Anyone heard of the shop in Georgia?

keep in mind, if you have a performance monitor, you will lose some of the functions when you get rid of the ecm. Not that big of a deal, just something to consider

Put the mechanical pump on my 270. Starts way better and I don’t have to worry about the caps pump failing again.
