My budget for a new gps system for tractor has landed me in the range of the outback system. I definitely want a hydraulic steering system, as the cab on my magnum has no room for anymore stuff. has anybody got an opinion on the outback stx unit as far as guidance capabilities. I only plant grain, so rtk probably isn't needed here. Does this unit have tilt function? very important for hills over here. I hope I can hook my 12v air seeder clutch to the unit to turn the paint on and off. Headed to a show today, but you guys are the true experts if you've used this.

We have an older outback system on a 9300 deere tractor. For a guidance only it works very well. Easy to use and very good customer service. If I was looking to put auto steer on a non auto steer ready tractor I would do it again. We liked it better than Ag leader or Trimble.

I installed an outback slam system on a 2004 stx 280 several years ago and the unit would not drive a straight line after multiple attempts. It was quite a fight to get my money back six months later and one awful planting season.

My supplier does Trimble and Outback. My preference is outback. I run multiple S3 systems and really have no complaints. Used to do everything myself but now my tech is great and trouble shoots any little problem if I can't figure it out. For cereals WASS will do fine. I have an edrive X on the seeder and love it. The X is very precise at least for what we need. We overlap one seed row and it does the job in hills also. Just the edrive box with tilt compensation will not perform as good as the X but still sufficient. Accurate to 6-8". For the mapping on/off all you need is a run/hold wire that hooks in. Never used the STX consul but I'm sure it would be fine with the edrive box.

Yes it has tilt. What tractor will it be installed on. Have had outback on JD 4450 for about 4 years. Works very well for tillage, seeding small grains, and spraying. Knock on wood, has never had to be worked on since new. STX replaced the S3 and should be a good unit.

We have four outback systems and wouldn't trade them for anything as they are user friendly and you can't beat the price. The edrive x is really good on its accuracy but the edrive tc will work fine at what you want to do. The stx has rtk capabilities for if you ever want in the future. The max however is able to run iso bus on certain planters and drills. Gets rid of cab clutter monitors will be the nicest thing but the max costs more also.
