Eastern Iowa | If you are going to use a tractor in the upper HP range you might want to spend a little more and get one with a heavyer gear box. Land Pride mowers are good quality if you have a dealer in your area.

Crawfordsville, Arkansas | We bought a nice older 7' Bush Hog last year at a sale in Luxora. $600 I believe. It's a late 80's or early 90's model when they actually used real steel in a mower. Have ran it on a 200+ horse tractor and it did fine. There's a sale coming up in a few weeks close by me. I'm sure there will be some mowers there.

Southern Lower Michigan | Bought one back in the early 80s paid just over $1000 for it Brand New . Just sold it last year for $600. early on I had to replace both blade carriers, and repair the 3pt lift, and one U joint in the cross drive. other than blades it ran fairly well for the rest of its life here. It was used mainly for roadsides, lanes, and on occasion , weedy wheat stubble , and light brush (usually not more than 2"). Never had any trouble with the gear boxes. The newer ones have a heavier built blade carriers, and 3pt lift . For me ,it was a good unit for the money, and my uses Their original blades were only 3/8 thick, and wouldn't last very long. I was able to replace them with 1/2 thick blades for a Woods mower. Those blades lasted a lot better. Joe
