Has any one converted a JD 7000 planter from a plate unit to a Kinze style brush meter to plant milo?
If so, pros and cons of such conversion.
Thanks

It's real easy to go from a finger pickup to the Kinze bean meters.....if you want to go from a plate planter to the Kinze meters would be a job and require a lot of different parts.....probably easier to trade planters.

I don't think it would be worth it going from plates to brush meters. You would need different boxes, and the drive is different under the box. Lots of parts would have to be changed. A lot easier to just buy a different planter, even if it needed rebuilt.

Thanks for the reply but I saw the Shoup coversion and that is what prompted me to ask how well it worked.
Would really like to hear results from some one who has done it.

Did a 6 row 15 years ago and late bought two more rows and switched everything two an 8 row,if your planter is in good repair ,makes life much easier ,milo and beans are a breeze with the brush meter.

I've looked at many 7000 and 7100 (same exact row units) in Iowa over the years, and I have yet to see a plate type, though its in the parts book and instruction manual.

The finger unit plants corn very well, one of the better approximations of a picket fence stand. The original Deere bean cup was an almost controlled spill, but the Kinze brush bean unit that fits the finger unit box and drive is very good for beans, and with the right plate should be good for milo, though I have no experience with milo. I do own Kinze brush bean units for my 7000 planter.

I suspect the conversion kit is all the parts that are different and the kit parts are exact equivalent parts to the Deere parts when the row unit was assembled for finger units and will work exactly the same as all the 7000s I've see that came from the factory that way. When I was shopping for a 7000 or 7100 I'm sure I would have not bought a plate type, but I didn't have to make that choice.

It might be as simple and cheaper to acquire whole row units from a planter salvage yard.

I don't know where to buy fiberglass planter boxes for a plate planter. If anybody has a source, I'd love to hear it.

I've got 6 of them. So-so condition. But would probably work. They've been painted once to help keep the fiberglass from getting on a person.

Probably would just give them away if somebody showed up wanting them. I've been meaning for a long time to wreck that old planter out, and keep the parts that I might need.

It doesn't apply here but have 6 boxes for 7200 or 7300 planter, that are the finger meter unit with lids-1.6 bu hopper. [email protected]

That's what I was wanting to know. Everyone seems to think they do great in beans but
not many comments about milo. Milo, the forgotten crop, LOL.
Thanks Hoofer
