Subject: how many tons of corn silage off of an acre

east of indianapolis
I'm wanting to do some figuring on feedstuffs and was wondering how many tons of silage a guy should figure per acre on lets say 150 bushel corn. Is there a rough figure of say tons related to yield on a bushel bases or whats average. Thanks

"here" yield goal divided by 6-7 gives you a rough start.

Far as I've ever noticed, yield tends to have a lot to do with it . We just guess at what our dump wagon loads weigh, but I'd think 150 bu would have you up in the 20 ton per acre range. Just my guess.

150 bushel corn should be in the 20 ton plus range per acre.

Appraised at 21 tons, I think it is closer to 18.

Variety is going to make some difference. If its a short grain corn maybe only 15 ton, a tall dual purpose will do 20-25 here. But i would say 18-20 ton would get most 150 bu corn as the ear/grain accounts for quite a lot of the weight too.

always use 10 bushel equals a ton-150 bushel =15 ton
on earlage 20 bushel equals a ton
usually very good estimates as you always want to have a bigger pile then you need!

Another figure to use as an estimate I was always told is that half the dry matter in a corn plant is the grain. So 150 bu grain equals 4.25 ton of grain, plus the same amount of stalk.
