Subject: deere 435 baler ,cant keep twine pump working.

Texas
my deere baler has a chevy. type power steering pump to run the twine arms .the first pump lasten several thousand bales .when it went out the next pump only lasted about 1000. i started getting the twine pumps (gm p/s pump )at napa deere is about 200$and napa is less than 50$ .it doesent matter if it is a deere pump or a napa pump i change 2-3 of them a year .i checked the valve for binding and twine arms ,everything works perfect .parts man at deere suggested new pulleys ,and deere fluid and filter ,then flush system .i did that and everything else deere dealer said .deere dealer has a baler expert and i have also done everything he said (had so much trouble im a deere baler expert now) .when i remove the bad pumps i have a setup to turn them and some hoses to do a bench test .they are always not pumping .i put on a new pump and away i go .it is a closed system so thought. about using syntetic atf in it.i know im overlooking somthing simple ,but cant find the "root" of the problem thanks in advance.

This is just a guess, but it sounds like overheating. I'd try the synthetic fluid, you might also be able to rig up a cooler in the return line made from an old heater core. Some of the bigger cars, (Caddys, Buicks) had a cooler mounted on the pump.

My WAG is that something else in the circuit is causing the pumps to fail prematurely. Maybe fluid is not freely circulating when the twine arms are not working making the oil use the pump relief valve and causing more heat and friction.

Subject: does the oil get hot?It sholdn't

My W A G is that the pump is running all the time dead ending a load or under dead end preasure.Ill bet your pump never stops. It is is like my 535 , the pump shuts off while baleing (Till the bale gets big enough)if I remember corectly. It has a belt tensioner that thghtens/puts slack in the belt. I think if it were to keep running it woudl build preasure towards the end of the tie arm cylinder.I have put around 10,000 bales through mine adn I got it after it was considerably used. I feel it still the original pump.
Do you go through alot of belts? They shoudl last a long long time .
It is sort of complicated how those things work the arms. When I first got my 535 it would not tie when it was supposed to. I got to looking and there was a roll pin sheared off on a linkage point somewhere. I seem to remember it was rusted tight enough it would not wiggle, but the linkage was out of time so that the belt tensioner would not engage and run the pump.
Check to see if the oil gets hot. It shouldnt get much more than warm to the touch on a 70 degree day.If it does , there is a good chance you pump runs all the time because of something being not right in the linkage and adjustments. Also check to see if you are missing any springs onthe linkage.... Compare your baler linkage and oil temperature with the neighbors when he is baleing /or parked just to get an idea of what is wrong with yours.

Tommy, I also agree with the other post, I think your twine pump is running all the time and it should not. Is there any way you can take a picture and post it of your rt hand inside the baler door. Chances are something is out of place. Is your hook and latch returning home? Jon

thanks for all the replies ,ill check if the pump is staying locked in .the pump gets too hot to touch .but it is over 100 here every afternoon ,and tools sitting in the sun get too hot to touch too . the oil never smells burned .

Do you know the Napa part # for the twine pump? I need one myself as I bought a 535 baler and used a low hydraulic flow tractor and the pump lactch did not catch when gate was raised and has burned up the pump.

Thanks
Lamont
