Strasburg North Dakota
Looking for a inexpensive corn head to put on our 7010. Have found several fair priced 893 john deeres and wondering how it would be to mount one on the 7010. How much cutting is required? Will the head ever be able to be used on a John Deere again? Has anyone done this before? Looks alot easier to make one of them work than one of our 1083s. Pics would be a great help thanks.

Take some measurements of 7010 faceplate, it is much wider than older JD combines. I tried to put head from 9610 on a 7010, ended up getting a different head.

Why would you want the JD head when CHI builds a better head? And yes I've ran both.

I contemplated that step a little over a year ago. Bish has a kit to convert a 93 series head to your combine. I didn't do it as I didn't get the 7010 purchased I was bidding on, but it didn't look like a drastic conversion. I think the important thing is to get a good welder/blacksmith to do the hacking and I believe if it is done right you can weld back the section you took out. I was worried if the electronics would hook up right, but I think Bish also supplies what you need to make that work also. Of course the older Bish adapters will not work that adapted 843 and 893 heads to 2188's.

I modified a 608C chopping to put on my 8120. It is a certain amount of work, but nothing serious if you are handy with a plasma and welder and don't mind hacking up an expensive head. Bish makes the kit, and is good to work with.

The pieces that are cut out of a 608 are pretty well destroyed during removal, but they are just multiple pieces of flat stock. They just happen to be a few layers deep.

Headsight make the controls for the electronics.

Just a couple threads down there is a thread titled "Case IH corn head angle" that contains pics showing you how to make a 1083 fit on a 8010.

Never ran  Case head but can tell you a 93 series Deere isn't much if you have any type of expectations. Price wise I wouldn't go more than 250.00 per ton ;-)
