Subject: Hardi sprayer controllers

Can anyone help me with information on what controller has worked well on the Hardi sprayers? There is a 2500, 3500, and 5500 model. Just wondering if some are easier to use and have a better history of working without problems?

I have a Hardi 5500 controller. It works fine. I wanted to tie it in with a GPS guidance system and found out that the controller is designed for European systems only. I could not find any hardware/softeware that could tie into the 5500. I believe that this year Agleader could replace the 5500 with their Insight. This might be worth looking at if you want to have as applied mapping or logging. I believe Hardi is also working to update the "look ahead" software in the 5500. We found that we sprayed with that option turned off. It needs to have a minimum flow parimeter built in like the Raven & Midtech contrlloers so that you do not lose your spray pattern when slowing down or starting out from a dead stop.

I've only used the HC2500. It has been easy to use, economical, and very accurate. It has also been trouble free. I've run it for 5 years and can't ever remember it causing a problem.

The Mustang 3500's preceded the HC2500 and were more expensive and not very popular. I would not even consider one. I know a dealer who owned one and didn't really like it. I think the failure of the 3500 to take off is what brought on the HC2500. I don't know much other than company literature hype on the HC5500. It looks like it would allow you to eliminate the DH box since the electro-hydraulic controls are on the controller.

What Hardi sprayer do you have? Do you need a DH box? Which pump - diaphragm or centrifugal? I have the 463 diaphragm pump which doesn't require the controller to adjust very much when slowing down or speeding up. As a result, low pressure or slow volume response out of a turn has not been a problem for me.

I would think ahead to what you might want this unit to do in the future before buying. There are a lot of options out there. Happy hunting!

Raven makes a special SCS 440 that will work on all hardi sprayers.

Thank you Mark, at this time I have a nav 1000, but would consider a nav 1100. My pump is 461, with a joystick. Most late model nav 1100 have the 2500 controller, my sparyer has no controller. I have heard just enough info that makes me a little concerned with the 3500 model. I am using the Envzo for guidance and just considering an upgrade and wider boom. The 5500 does not seem to be much of an upgrade unless there is something I am not aware of in that model. Also I was not aware that Raven made a controller that would work on the Hardi diaphram pumps. That is a possiblity that could work also. Good information Mark.

Little Al,
Sounds like you are on top of the situation. I will throw one more thing in the pot. If you are looking to trade sprayers, I would at least consider a Commander. If you could find a good buy on one, I think you would like it better. The Commander has had far fewer problems than the Nav's. Your Nav. may have been okay, but some models had lots of bugs and my local dealer has not been happy with them. The Commander has had a pretty strong reputation. I have a Commander Plus 1200 with 90 foot Force boom.

KEE also makes controllers for hardi sprayers. In australia you cannot buy a hardi without a hardi controller. In the past these have not been easy to autospray.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Hardi offer auto-nozzle shutoff in Australia?

hardi sells rebranded trimble autoboom and steering (ez-guides). Trimble has only recently released its hardi kit which requires you to use the existing controller and the ez-boom. Somehow rinex is also involved with hardi, although they cannot autospray 5500's without jobcomm box's. Trimble does not offer autoboom for older hardi pilot controllers.

Did you think about using John Deere GS2 Rate Controller? John Deere has released it to replace Hardi's console plus will let you have the possibility to use Swath Control Pro for Automated boom control.

Please note i said in the past. More solutions are now available for Hardi users. Deere seems like a very expensive option.

RINEX have an option to AutoSPRAY most HARDI controllers, including a HC5500 without a jobcom, but this is not recommended some of the features of the HC5500 are lost.

I was told that the steerable sprayers will not work with any of the autoboom systems at the moment. I have a 6600 and wanted to use my 2600 g* but sounds like not yet. They have to work out issues with the onboard computer that the steerable axel uses.

How do you like your new 6600? What did you trade to go to the 6600 and how do you like it's new features like tracking, turns, controls, etc.? What size tractor do you need to pull it?

I havent got to use it yet just bought it. Going to use a jd 8430 T to pull it . Everything will be on 120" spacing for one track. Started out looking at Top Air but the lenght of the sprayer had me worried about trailing issues in curves, people around me complain about pulling in and not being straight enough, so when I found Hardie had the steering I demoed it and was impressed how it worked. Dont know what to think of the 5500 controler yet as we didnt spray with it just drove it around.
