Southeast IN. | The PTO continues to spin when it is disengaged. If I put a load on it, it will stop. It will still turn the bushhog if it is raised and able to turn freely at higher RPM’s. Is there any adjustment for the internal break or linkage or is it rebuild time? |

Northeast Louisiana | My 1566 did that, I took the pto out and had it rebuilt. Still not it, My next step is to take the rod with plunger on the side and check it out. Got to be an internal leak. I have never been into that piece before, will be watching this post also to learn more. |

Texas | On the 886 ,the rod was bent under the cab and in a half engaged position . |

| Either the clutch pack is kinda burnt together or the brake pistons are shot. Pull it out and get rebuilt. |

west central Iowa | I rebuilt a PTO unit this last winter. Not a bad job if you have a good hyd. press. Talk to your IH tech before you start, one ring inside is hard to see, when taking apart. Get hyd. guage and set pressure when unit is running. Handy guage to have! |

| Pull the plug out of the angled hole on the LH side of the PTO housing mid way down. Use the special adapter (longer body and orificed) to gauge the pressure. With the lever completely down, there should be 0 pressure. If there is zero pressure and the PTO still turns, the plates are warped or the brake disks worn out which will require removal and rebuild.
If there is still pressure with the plunger down, there is an issue with the control stem. Since the stem has to be removed out of the bottom hole, PTO removal is usually the easiest way to repair. |

NC IA | Check to make sure there isn't dirt/gunk/crap around the seat of the stop collar on the engagement valve spool. Have also seen clutch packs welded/melted together, but I don't think that's your problem. |

Southeast IN. | Thanks for the replys. I will dig into a little deeper and see what happens. |

NC IA | I will add that the location of gunk build up I am talking about is where the rubber boot goes. If yours is cracked or missing I'd check that out. |
