SE MN | Here are some pictures of our 1969 John Deere 4000 we had painted this winter. Have a neighbor who paints tractors as a sideline. It was stripped down and sandblasted to bare metal and painted with Martin Senour paint from NAPA. They took over 200 pictures of the process and burnt them onto a CD and also compiled a three ring binder with pictures, parts used list and labor times for us. Don't think we are going to be able to use it any more because it looks too nice! North Central Iowa | Looks awesome!

Owens Cross Roads, AL | Looks great, I had a "69" 4020 one time, hated those fuel filters. Wilson

SEMN | Beautiful job! When I was a kid, we had a 2510 with that 8 speed transmission. Took a while to get on to it. Always gave a good shot gun blast like backfire after a good workout.

I'm sorry but that restoration means nothing with those god awful monkey lights in the fender. You are ruining a good looking tractor.

SE MN | We bought it that way. It had a cab on it and the previous owners took it off and put those fenders and lights on it. I know they aren't original but they sure light up better than OEM!

Macon, IL | Looks great to me, always thought those were one of the best pre-cab "large" tractors of the day.

Saronville NE | Looks great, dad had a 4000 when I was a kid, was a handy tractor.

Southern Ontario | That's one heck of a job they did. Nice that they documented everything for you as well.

NE | I actually kind of like the lights. Different and very easy to change if you want to go back to original.

Southcentral WI | Get those lights changed out! They detract IMO. A tractor that beautiful needs the round lights back in the fenders....maybe LED too!

Northeast Louisiana | Sharp!! The block heater on the right side, does it have a pump inside to circulate and heat the water? Have not seen one made like that before.

Western Ohio | We had 2 of them at one time, and farmed 700 acres in the 70's. Down to 1 now, dad and I bought it on my 17th b/day and he died before my 18th, ( i'm 52 now ) , so it will be here as long as I will . Your restore looks great. Keep using it ,we run augers and chopper with ours now.

south central IOWA | Wow! That thing is nice!! Why is it when a farmer sees someone's restored tractor the first thing they do is try to find something that isn't correct or a flaw? Who cares about the lights. You/they did an excellent job. :)

South Western, IL | I agree....great job and awesome result. I always liked the 4000. We have a 4320 that we restored when I was younger and I never want it to leave the farm. The new fancy stuff sure is nice but once in a while it sure is nice to let the old tractors roll the coal.

Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana | That looks great.

Warburg, AB | Looks sharp! Anyone have an idea on aftermarket fenders like that? All the tractors of that vintage up here have the big ugly wheatland fenders. Bruce

That is a standard JD heater. It had a thermostat and worked on the thermo-siphon theory ( hot water rises) so no pump in it.

That is a beautiful job! I did not know that 4000's came with battery covers.

NEMO | Beautiful tractor! Didn't see too many 4000s in this area. Dad had his '54 Super M done a couple of years ago, but he still uses his..............to drive up to the mail box to get the mail and to drive around the fields to check on the crops! LOL!

South Eastern ,ILL | Looks like a great paint job & nice tractor. I personally like everything original when restored though. The lights would have to go ,also the 4000's didn't have battery boxes, just a frame to hold the batteries in. How do I know this...I have a 4000 in original condition, not restored but very sharp.

WC Iowa | Repainted and restored and 2 very vague words. The term restored is overused 90% of the time, and probably to some when they see the term, they have a preset expectation in their head. I've see quite a few very nicly restored tractors cept for a few differences, and maybe someone's dad added it, or g=pa built that on it, and they wanted to keep it like it was. To the OP, the 4000 looks good, least the axles aren't yellow, alternator black (or green), mismatched tires, I could go on and on. Go to Ebay, or tractorhouse, and see the vague term restored.

Western Ohio | +1 on 1000 Moline. 4000;s had no battery boxes,no sheet metal around base of seat, 1 step, 1 remote,4010 rear ends and axles,3020 three point arms, no reverse at 4/7 position , not synchronized between forward and reverse in the other 2 positions. The whole idea was to make them about $1000.00 cheaper than a 4020 to compete with IH (856 ? ) at the time. Only made them from '69 to '72.

SE MN | Sorry, I guess I should have used the word "repainted" instead of "restored" when I posted this. The second step was added so my 80 year old Dad and the guy who painted it can get on and off it easier. The battery boxes were a kit added by the previous owner and 4000's could be ordered with two remotes and you could also get a differential lock as an option. We just wanted a nice looking tractor and it didn't need to be 100% original.

Ohio | Nice looking tractor. I'd love to have a 4320 and a 730 diesel someday. I've never driven a deere with the syncro range tranny. We don't have any tractors with that tranny. Have a quad range and 15 speed powershift.

Newton Iowa | Nice Paint Job . $ ? YOU wanted a nice looking tractor not a perfect restore. I'd say good job done.

Brazilton KS | I don't think I've ever seen an early 4000 with the old intake and fuel filter before. I know they exist but all the ones around here are later ones. Ours has two outlets, differential lock, 38" rubber, intake stack and precleaner, powershift, and several other things people like to try to tell me don't exist, but Mr Thinker says they do.

Brazilton KS | What does a correct 4000 PS tach look like? I have never found a picture of one. Is it like the 4000 SR one, which would have required a different face, or is it like a 4020 PS one?
