Yep, the value is questionable. However, we have always used fish emulsion from Dramm. Those that have had success with fish tell us to not use emulsion, but instead use a product made from the entire fish (logic makes sense). Time will tell.

We used it in the past on small grains thru the pivots. It was recommended to us to use the fish hydrolysate, not fish emulsion. Fish emulsion is a byproduct, some beneficial oils etc have been taken out. Fish hydrolysate is the whole fish digested and stabalized.

By the way, downwind 3 gal/ac thru the pivot smells like you are by the ocean.

Fish hydrolystate very smelly to work with, but has a broad spectrum of good things in it in my opinion. Freight and handling issues are the reason we looked for alternatives. Also, you can get full tankers quite a bit cheaper if you are using volume. We never needed that much.

We used it until a few years ago........but the growing season around here has been so "unusual" that I hesitate to say there would have been no value........simply because in those cool damp soils for the last 3-4 years, a little food might have been an aid that would have been worth it.

We switched from Dramm to same type of processing done by Schafer Fish, Thomson, IL .............about 50% of the cost.

I have not used it on corn but been putting it on beans for about a decade now. Haven't used any other fertilizer while using fish. We apply it in furrow and as a foliar. Stinks like hell. You'll be sleeping on the couch for a while. Don't leave product sit for too long or it will become thick and won't move through your plumbing. You will need bigger screens and clean them often. I think you'll need something like 50 to 60 gal/a for corn.

We use Neptunes Harvest fish and a dry seaweed powder in the transplant water on the cabbage. I am getting back at least 3 times my cost in better plant survival during HOT weather. Use ONE gallon of fish and 8 oz. seaweed per acre.

All post sprays on all crops get 1qt fish and 6oz seaweed with each spray.

It works but you must get out of the pickup and grab a shovel and start digging and looking.......

I'm from thomson, il where shafer fish is located. A majority of farmers use in furrow fertilizer and I know of no one that uses the fish stuff locally. Just my two cents. They have never even pushed it locally aka stopped at my farm. I use 2 gallons of 6-24-6, 2 gallons of a cps (Loveland) pop up product capture and accomplish

I thought I heard it mention someplace that corn would need 50 to 60 gal/a of fish to grow a crop.  The fish would replace the nitrogen source. You would probably need to band it with the planter and or cultivator.

We put 6 gal in furrow at planting for beans. Then put on about 3 to 4 gal/a per foliar application.

Dry seaweed? Where do you purchase it from?

John you like the dry kelp better than the liquid? I had not thought of trying the dry. The kelp sure helps with plant survival in any conditions "here". But the dry would be easier to transport and mix as needed.
