WI | Looking at a used FP240 and I am considering to put a Dion F61 rotary 4 row-30" corn head on it. How does the Dion rotary head compare to the NH 3RN head? I am assuming the Dion head will last a lot longer for the $25K-$28K price tag I have seen on it compared to $13K for the NH head. Also, would a Case 235 Magnum be able to handle the the FP240 with the F61 Dion Rotary head? The Case specs. show it puts out 195 PTO Hp at 2000rpm but I am not sure if this can be increased somehow. The NH FP240 requires 180-300Hp and I prefer not be on the low end of PTO Hp in case I need it in heavy crops.

eastern ontario canada. | 3 rows will be fine 4 might be pushing it. nice thing with the dion head is you can take the rows you want

WCIL | We have the same setup with the three row head and no kernel processor. Our corn wasn't the best last fall so really don't know how a four row would work in good corn but the three row worked fine with the 235. Like stated above you could take as many rows as you want with the dion head. Edited by CCIL 3/25/2013 05:39

SW Minnesota | I'm sure you could chip the 235 to up the power, dion head would be nice.

Blue Grass (Eastern IA) | If you have a KP you will need more power, if not you will be fine. KP will take 50HP.

Wi | Id stay 3 rows with the lower power. You dont want yo be at the top end of their range if you dont like fixing. We ran 2 FP240s for a few years before finally going to a self propelled. We would get one new one every year due to wear. We ran an 8940 turned up yo 280hp and an mx255 with a chip. KPs would like to fly apart, other smaller parrs in the drivetrain as well then when thr curterhead would break we would trade them. Make no mistake, they are the toughest pull type out there, we just ran ours very hard. We did 500acres of hay per crop atbthat time and the same in corn silage.

frederick, MD | We used to run 900 choppers with the new holland 3 row head. Best head ever made. It will cut any direction without spending the money on the dion. It will also cut grass, weeds, down corn, and need very little maintance. We ran ours for years, don't think we ever did anything to the head.

Eastern Ont | I think the Dion head is a good idea but at 25K take a long time to justify We are running an 892 with a 3 row head and Horning processor, Didnt see that much of a difference when we put the KP on,

eastern canada | Mag235cannot be chipped. No chip really work with it so far, it only uses more def with gaining very little hp.

Eastern Ont | You are gtting stresssed out by the HP requirment numbers AN FP 240 does not need 180 hp to just run it The 240 should run easier then the 230, BUT will take the HP if you push it FP 230 with 230 HP out front is running at capacity in CS, 2 row head rolls wide open, limiting capacity is thorat area Lot more parts to wear out on a rotary head 3 row head will slow your ground speed down easier on everthing less bounce It will also keep you at capacity all the time 4 row would slow you down more If you want un matched capacity JF 1355/1360 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlBmzXihrSM Dont know what they have for a corn head Edited by ayrporte 3/25/2013 10:44

south central WI | I think the NH head is a great corn head. It does cut very well in all directions, much better than the Gehl it replaced. I looked at the dion and would like one, but not sure if it is worth it. The 8400 we pull it with dynos 270+. In haylage the throat/ head is the limiting factor. In corn silage it is the processor. I can fill a wagon with haylage quicker than with corn silage, but part of that is due to corn silage packing more in the wagon. I have disintegrated 2 lower front feed rolls, 1 each year we have owned it.
