The Internet

They are all old tractors now.

The 7740 is the best by miles. In SLE flavour it will have decent hydraulics, decent transmission and a cab you can easily spend a long day in. They are very reliable.

Had a neighbour with 4 7700/7710's and 1 7740. The 7740 is gone and they still have the 7710's. Neighbour had a lot of electronic problems with the 7740. The 7710's they just keep putting hours on, likely have 10-15 000 on some of them. My choice would be a 7710 with 8 speed reverse if you can find one. Nice SIMPLE tractor

I have a 7710, I didnt really like it until I started using it as a 90 HP tractor instead of 125 HP tractor on a 1000 gallon sprayer. It has been a good chore and haying tractor for me.

They were all design evolutions of the 7000... In terms of most robust, that probably gravitated towards the 7000 as there was less to go wrong on them. 7740 or even newer into the TS100/110 you would have the most features. They're all pretty good tractors. Kinda watch out with 7700/7710 models though as they were notoriously turned up. A LOT. At least around here. And they did get used as 125 hp tractors... So watch that you're getting one that runs good and doesn't have a bunch of baked pistons or broken rings.... and the clutch isn't worn out. Beyond that they pretty well stood up to the power.
Also with 40/TS tractors you could get a proper CCLS hydraulic system on the SLE models that had the 16x16 or 24x24 transmission. Also beware that the shift linkages can be a bit funky on the 12x12 and 24x24 transmissions.

Personally... I still prefer the 16x8 dual power transmission on the 10 over all of the others. It's got a good selection of ratios that don't overlap or become redundant. The 12x12/24x24 has too many redundant gears and low range almost never gets used.

Has a 7710 and a 7740. Both were good tractors, the 40 had a few electrical problems. and the only problem I had with the 7710 was welch plug came loose in the rear end and lodged in the pto gears and broke a gear tooth.

Both tractor had a rough life before I got them, the 10 came off a sod farm and had fine black dust but the pound everware, rusted through cab, but stilll ran good. Traded it for the 40, witch also seen hard use, but still was dependable. Traded that one for the CIH MXU 110 I have now.

If you get one.....keep a injector pump selenoid on hand, every Ford tractor I owned (7710 / 7740 / 555C) with a 4 cyl engine had that fail (will not get fuel to start or in the case of the 555C, will not shut off) About $100 at teh dealer or $75 on Ebay.
