Caraway, AR

mine is listed as 335/365. I was told the 365 was with the cruse on.

Not a 400, for sure, but it gets along.  Haven't had much trouble with it. Water pump, and two injectors when I first bought it.

Got about 700K on it.

350 HP is the MAX HP sold for a 3176B engine.(9CK)    {Edit: Maybe there was a 365 HP, with a software change???, that a dealer could install}

325 Hp was max for a 3176, the first few years it was sold (but "7LG" model; change a turbo and a software chip/module, could get a 325 to 350 HP

If serial number starts with "2YG"= run away, many problems

we have 2 3176B with 9 speeds in 94 freightshakers set at 365 and one 3176 in a 95 freightshaker set at 350(reprogrammed) but the motor itself came from factory at 325 and everything about it is smaller. Oil cooler, radiator, turbo, etc..
they are a decent motor, got along fine for us over the years hauling grain and fert for us and custom, plus hauling 88,000lbs of beets. Not the most power or torque but they get the job done.

Your engine is SOLD AS a 335 HP MT (Multi-torque) It does not have 365 HP in EVERY gear. It is either a MT-1 or MT-2 (I don't think they had MT-4; back then)

MT-1 = that is only has 365 HP in the very TOP GEAR.

MT-2 = that is only has 365 HP in the very top 2 gears.

These settings(multi-torque) allow for a "cheaper drivetrain components" (tranny and rearends) to be used, because that extra HP is only available at in the higher gears of the tranny, thus that higher HP setting wouldn't be multiplied in the lower gears, in the tranny, which in turn, would then be transmitted to the "cheaper" rearends.

These engines/settings allowed some lower priced components, to be used in a truck, but may allow the drivers to stay in the "top gear" a little longer and be able to run over slightly rolling terrain, and NOT have to downshift as often; when they are operating at highway speeds.

I had one I really liked. If I got 6mpg I started looking because some thing was wrong. The one I had rewarded good maintenance. If any filters needed changed or the air to air needed cleaned the mileage would drop off. It was also very particular about oil level. Mine never uses a drop the 500,000 miles I drove it. I wasn't the one who put the first 500 on it either. I always seemed to get there as fast as the boys with the 500 hp engine. More than once I pulled the grade when they spun out because they had to shift and I didn't.
I bought mine by accident while the mechanic was working on the engine. He asked me how I wanted it set. I told him I wanted the most hp I could get. He set it using " Marine Specs". If you can get some one to set it that way I suspect you will get the HP up where you want it. I also suspect if you use it 100% that way it might not last to long.
