Ludington/Manistee MI area | Are L10 cummins an alright motor? '95 vintage. |

| As long as you aren't expecting too much from it for its size, yes its an alright motor. We've never really had any problem with ours. It coughs and slobbers right after start up when its cold and it always uses a little oil but other than that its fine. Other than the coughing and sputtering it really starts pretty good in cold temps. I think our truck is a 94 but I'm not positive on that. |

Marion,ks | I have a 280hp L-10 in a 91 T-450 KW tandem truck it does fine but I only have a 600 bu grain bed on it . It is good on fuel and has plenty of power I have had no mechcanical issues with it. I have my doubts if it would handle 80,000# . |

| Are you thinking for a truck or a tractor? We have a 300 horse L10 in a 9250 tractor and its always been real good for us. I've always heard people say they aren't real great for a truck engine but can't really speak from experience. Where are you at? Looks like you're real close to where I'm at. |

Chilliwack BC | They have a reputation on this site as a gutess, slobbering, oil burning POS. We have 2 of a 1992 vintage in tractors and like them. If you need more than 300 hp, there might be better engines out there. |

EC North Dakota | I have one in a 93 Volvo that the tag says it is set at 310. Have not had any problems with it since I purchased it. I bought it as a tractor and it did all right pulling 80K, no speed records but good reliable truck. I have had it stretched and added a lift axle to make a straight truck out of it with 22' box. I still like driving this truck the best of any I have had. |

Texas/New Mexico Stateline | For 300 hp I think they are great little engines. Start easy, easy on fuel, surprising torque for 10 liters. They do idle pretty rough until they get warmed up, and use more oil than others. I have one in CIH 9250 and it pulls just as good and better than the older Panther 310 with the big cummins. And it will burn 1/3 to 1/2 less fuel.
Neighbor also had one in a Peterbuilt, and I don't think he ever had any problems. Sounded really good too. |

North Central Illinois | A lot of guys on this site bad mouth them but they really aren't all that bad. We've got a 1990 daycab with an L10 that pulls 72,000 with no trouble. I can't remember what it is set at though. I think around 280 hp but not positive. As others have said if you need to go over 300 hp there are better motors out there. We have spent very very little on that engine. I wouldn't go out looking for another one but I sure wouldn't be afraid of one that has had good care. |

swohio | I have one in a 93 Volvo cabover. Use it to pull 80-88,000 lbs. It is slow, but gets the job done. New was 330hp. Mine has 535,000 miles and runs well. |
