Subject: Compare Case IH 9100, 9200, and 9300 series 4wd

Central Ohio
Like a lot of people, we are looking to upgrade some older 4-wheelers. We like what we see in the Case IH Steigers, but I am having trouble figuring out what the major upgrades are from the 9100 to the 9200 series (other than skip shift) and the 9200 to the 9300 series. Any help?

We have found a 9350 Steiger w/ 3100 hours we are most likely going to trade a JD 8630 on for pulling a 36ft Deere air seeder. We are looking at 9170s and 9270s for tillage. Any differences other than hp between those and the 9x80s?

How many hours is reasonable to get out of a well maintained M11 or N14 and powershift tranny in these tractors before overhaul?

Anything to look for in particular when buying?

Thanks for any help!

If you're gonna pull for tillage, you should get the big block engine. You will be much happier with the lugging power, but the N14 is kind of fuel hog. It's not bad if you keep it at about 1900 rpm and shift up.

We had a 9230 CIH, which we sold and 2 years later we bought a 9330. There are very few differences between the two. I can only think of convince things like a few less grease points....

We have a N14 in our tillage tractor (blue). IT's a great engine, with tremendous power. I would prefer the 9370 CIH if I were to make that purchase again.

First thing is you'll think you've died and went to heaven comparing a 8630 to any of the 9XXX series C-IH tractors!
When I lived in S FL I managed a company that had 200+ of the small frame (9x10 or 9X30) pulling sugar cane harvest wagons, tillage and other choir work. We had 3, 9X50 and 20+- (9X70 and 9X80) and 10 STX pulling pans and heavy tillage along with various Deere 4wd's too
First thing is the transmission will last forever if taken care of, we had some pulling wagons and scrappers approaching 15,000 hours when I left. The secret to this is forget the HyTran and go to SAE 30 TO4 grade Power Transmission Oil like CAT and Allison uses and fill the transmission to the full mark with engine running 1,000 rpm's to prevent cavitation in the transmission lubrication system especially when coming up a headland or hill. The pickup tube is in the front of the transmission and lube pressure will fluctuate when coming up hill thus causing loss of lube pressure and loss of lubrication and you know the rest of the story.
Last thing I'd advise you of is unless you heart is just set on a 9X50 buy a 9x30 or large frame (9X70, 80 or 90). I can go into detail later about differences in transmission and why not the 9X50 mainly because of poor service from the L-10 and carry over to M-11.
PS the transmission information about the Fuji-Tek is the same on the Twin Disc too, the Fuji is just a Japaneses copy of the the Twin Disc with improvements most parts will inner change. Twin Disc users: Deere 60, 70, 9X00, and Versatile,

What's supposed to be wrong with the engine on the 50's George?

Dad's owned a 9250 he bought used back in 99 and hasn't had any trouble with it except it is due for a center hinge bushing job once.

I ran it a small bit when he first got it. I thought it was a powerhouse.

Poor luck with the engines, I just hate those L-10 and M-11 engines I guess it a personal thing.

I had thought that I would like to buy one due to the fact that they are cheaper than a J.D. anyhow we have a 9300, this fall we borrowed a friends 9370 and air seeder and I did not like the visibility and the layout of the cab, the hyds were old school compared to the 9300. I do think that they are decent tractors but would rather have a deere for comfort, esp. the seat.
