Subject: John Deere 5525 not engaging into gear

CUldesac, IDaho

We have a John Deere 5525 and when you put it into gear and move the forward reverser into forward position with out the clutch the nutural light flashes. Once you put it in nutural and push the clutch in and go to take off again it will work. If you use the clutch it is fine but if you  dont then the light flashes. Anyone else have this problem before.

Thanks

CLayton

Is this when you first start the tractor? I have a 5410 that after you start the motor you have to depress the foot clutch before the tractor will move---I'm guessing that it is a safety thing.

Safety device in forward/ reverse valve body. Requires YOU in the seat to stroke clutch pedal the first time after start up before tractor will move. Should keep you alive longer. Hope this helps.

Clayton.. I think your question is a little unclear... Like other have said... but does it only do this the first time.. or everytime you try to use the reverser? (without using the pedal)

It happens once I have already been using it. Like last weekend I was feeding and it was working fine, I dumped a bale in the feeder and went to reverse and then the light blinked. The only way I could get it to move was to then depress the clutch and put it in gear and let it out.

Sounds like the seat sensor. Sometimes the plastic seat cracks allowing the sensor to come out. Just how big a boy are ya?

Need to check plastic lever from clutch pedal to Potentiometer. On our 5525 the lever worked its way off the Potent. acted as if clutch (if it had one) just went out . Tried to recalibrate then found the little plastic lever hanging cost $3.

Sounds most likely that the seat switch is momentarily telling the "safety" part of the circut to reset FNR lever. If you want to replicate this, drive forward and lift up out of the seat and shift FNR lever to reverse. YOU will have to push clutch pedal to resume movement, tractor will disengage from moving both directions because the circut shows you are out of the seat. You could have a seat switch failing or maybe just happened to lift out of seat as you were backing up. Hope this helps.
