sullivan il. | i have 7 ritchies and one mirafount all work good have never had any problems till this morning mirafount balls froze and float froze only had 5- 500lbers drinking out of it i know not enough moving 80 head into that pen sat. so wont have to worry after that the ritchies have a flatter ball easier for young calves to push down but never had an issue with the mirafount |

central Ia. | Installed a Cobett water this winter and want to dig up every waterer on our place and replace with a Cobett. Look them up online, no deler network made in a pole shed on his farm. -10 had 1" of ice on top just take your hand or foot and hit the float ice breaks valve is at the bottom of the waterer and has never froze. LOVE IT!!!!! |

| we installed several new ritchies four and five years ago and i hate them, we are starting to put in mirafount waters and so far i like them better. |

South West MN | I have an energy free payloader tire tank in the middle of a field that 40 cows drink out of. it gets 2" of ice on it in the morning but what can you expect with -15 and a 20 mph wind. cost less than $100.

NW MINN | what problems are you having with the ritchies? and what model are they? I've got 3 omni founts and they are about the only thing that will stay open at -25For lower. And now they have a belowthe surface valve that should never freeze as long as the power stays on.

Bardstown, Ky | I have three rithie's, the open top is fairly maintenance free and rarely gets ice on it if there are just a few cattle drinking from it, on the other hand I have a couple of 2 hole waterers with the balls in them and they are junk. You cannot keep a float valve working in them. Anything ritchie supplies will leak after about 2 weeks gave up dealing with them and trying to fix the problem. Finally went to the hardware store and for $18 put a brass float valve for a toilet in it after modifying the float rod and it lasted a couple of years but it needs replacing again now. |

just a tish NE of central ND | Nope,No energy free waterers for me, thank you LOL! it is too cold and windy for them here outside if you dont ahve tons of cattle drininkg. This morning I put a can of Mountain Dew that was in the house along side a radiator on the pickup tailgate. I forgot about it for about 40 minutes....... it was frozen completly solid when I fianlly thought about it and warped the bottom of the can out already....
No energy free waterers for our farm please.You couldnt give me one.Farther into warmer areas they might work fine though, just not good enough for me where I am at I guess. |

| ct 2000 and 4000, i hate the float valve adjustment, move it one day because the waterer is overflowing and the next day the balls are two inches from the top and icy. |

Marion,ks | X2 on the Cobett .I have a older Mirafount with the balls and it is okay ,but the Cobett is simpler too install and easier to install and set. |

Wall, SD | We have went to cobetts. We have 4 right now and getting ready to order our 5th one. I have put in several cobetts for the neighbors and so far so good. Everyone likes them. Terribly simple to install. If all of your materials are there they take less than 4 hours to install. |

Where did u get the float?
Did u put cement in the bottom of the tank?
Did u cut any part of the tire?

Timber Lake, South Dakota | I am a big fan of the Mira Fount waterers by Miraco. Good insulation, and you can pull the sides out and open them up. Have a new horizontal Ritchie waterer and it is kind of a pain. Calves step in it unless you make a bar to keep them out, and the access under the tank always gets froze in. Expensive too. |

western iowa,by Denison | went to bohlman with over flow-you can get a automatic over flow or manual-I like the manual-if water is going over the overflow pipe-its not frooze-have ritchie overflow and takes twice the flow to keep them open-absolutely love this option-once set for winter they never have to break ice-if you do you just open your manual petcock some more-it takes aboot 10 gallon a hour to keep them open in 0 degree weather-dont have to worry about water lines freezing at all-because there is always water moving-we just run the overflow down a tile line that is 100ft long-and if your valve breaks all the water just goes down the overflow |
