NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | I have a 8120 with the bigger 1000 pto but need to get an adapter to go to the smaller 1000 pto. I checked my local Bomgaars store & they don't carry it. I called my John Deere dealer & they wanted $192 for theirs "ouch". Theirs was an after market one. The JD parts guy says there is a differance in pto adaptors. He said to stay away from the lighter duty ones as they can not take the more hp from these bigger tractors.
I did some google searching & did find some but not sure if they are good quality ones or cheaper ones. From the prices of some they must be cheaper made because they were about 25% the cost of John Deeres after market one.
What have some of you used that have held up good for you? Thanks, Mark |

| The John Deere one won't bend like the others. Its worth the extra $$'s. |
NEMO | Had a cheap one and it didn't last 6 months, then got the high $ one from Deere and its still working. |

Pontiac, IL. | +2 Better to pay more the first time than have to buy 2. |

Tipp Co IN | Wouldn't it be better to change out the pto shaft on the equipment and not use the adapters? Most can be swapped out depending on equipment vendor. I am talking about the end coupler or first section. Just my $0.02 |

Jackson County....... Southwest Minnesota | What are you going to run with the adapter ? |
Mobile | Hub City are the best, stay away from the gold looking under$ 50, they work great for 75hp or less and not made for 75hp+(speeco)

NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | Mainly a grain cart. |

There are product liability problems with poor quality adapters. Many have discontinued making them for that reason. The Deere adapter has been around since the 6030/7520 tractor models and is high quality. Still need to use good judgement with it too. If you do go with the adapter be sure the telescoping shaft has clearence while turning due to the added length of the adapter. Hope this helps.

| If you don't have all 3 PTO's like is available, " install a new yoke on your implement" for the larger PTO. Bigger is better, just do it that way. Don't use adaptors, you
are looking for trouble. |
NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | Not sure if I can do that. The parts guy said it all depends on how the tractor is setup from the factory. He said some can but most can't. How's that for an answer :-). |
Eastern Ont | Are you using the cart on tractors with small 1000 also?
If not just change the front pto piece
Jackson County....... Southwest Minnesota | I would change the grain cart over to the big 1000 |
NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | This is what I should probably do. |
Tipp Co IN | I wasnt talking about the tractor but change the coupler on the grain cart. I have done it on other items and it works. Leave the tractor as is. |
nw MN | You could get a new pto shaft with the bigger coupler on one end.

WC MN | I'd change the pto piece. Probably about the same price as a good adapter. I've seen 2 pto adapters twisted up. Big 1000 to small 1000 and a small 1000 to 540. You'll thank yourself :) |

north central Kansas | What kind of grain cart are you needing to adapt? I'm looking to trade the front half of a J&M 875 shaft with large 1000 pto for one with small 1000 pto. |

Ohio | Big to small adapters work fine. We ran one on a 4650 Deere running a pull type silage chopper for years. Never broke one. If you've chopped silage you know the power being transferred through that shaft when chopping corn. |
West Tennessee | We've run one, that I think came from John Deere, on our 4640 running a 750 grain cart for probably 10 years. It has 2 bolts and clamps to the PTO shaft. It works great and has never given us any problems. I wouldn't run a bush hog on it but it works great for the grain cart. |

mw | I wouldnt call deere's heavy duty either but your parts guy is correct, you will be cussing the cheap one when the splines are twisted so bad that you cant get it out. |

| +1, we had the hired man hook the 7150 to the batwing because the other tractor didn't have AC. He didn't get the adapter tight (good hub city one) and we had to spend $650 to repair the driveline on the mower when the adapter slid off. |

Denhoff,ND right in the center of the State | Buy one from JD, they have 2 bolts and bolt on tight, the aftermarket ones just slide on and are junk, been there done that. I use one on my JD 4640 to run snowblower and Myers manure spreader. Terry |

SE Nebraska | I have tried several with poor results. John Deere has been the best. Still using it. It is worth the extra $ |

NW Iowa | We use the 2 bolt hub city ones as well. Have had no problems with them but usually dont run high demanding things. I agree on changing the shaft end also. We have both a large and small shaft for our cart so we can put it on different tractors without adapters. |

NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | Thanks for all the replies guys. After reading all the cons of using an adapter I'm going to just buy the outer end of the shaft. It was only about a $100 plus labor to change it over. Cheaper, better and safer then going the adpater way. Mark |

wcks | Our local deere mechanic got us a bolt on adapter with a shear pin for our 8420 on the tub grinder and mower. You slide the adapter over the big one and it bolts on with the 4 allen head screws. Haven't sheared the pin ever but does give me a sense of security while in the loader feeding the grinder. |

It is just a wobbler, wearing out your whole PTO drivetrain. |

Brazilton KS | Deere and CIH both have a bolt on one that takes two big bolts to clamp tight to the shaft. I believe that A & I has one also however I have not physically put my hands on the A & I one as we have several of the others.
The cheap hub city type ones with little bolts are nothing but trouble for anything more then a fertilizer spreader. |
