| FIL bought a Cat Challenger 55 last year to replace a White 6195 and 280hp Steiger. It has done a good job replacing the White, but he thinks he is overworking it trying to pull the field cultivator and chisel plow the Steiger used to pull. He is thinking about getting a Cat 65E or 75E in addition to the 55, however, I suggested he look into getting a MT765 and selling the 55.
The 55 currently pulls a 36? foot cultivator and 3pt 12 row planter in the spring and pulls a chisel plow in the fall.
If it was up to you, what would you do?
Keep the 55 and buy a 65E/75E or sell the 55 and get a MT765?
Or sell the cultivator and chisel plow and buy smaller implements? |

NW KS/ SC ID | multiple tractors is never a bad thing, if one goes down you have another. |

| If he needs the 3 pt and PTO it's very hard to find a CH65E like that. MT765 and 65E are both around 320-330 flywheel HP and the CH55 was only about 275 flywheel?? |

Clear Lake, IA | A 765 with a stack of weight and 30" belts will do that 36' no problem, same goes for a five shank ripper. The 765 cab and controls are night and day better then the 55-65-75 series. The 700 series Challengers are a nice tractor, I have been trying to get the CEO (Dad) to trade in the 8100MFWD for a couple of years now:-) Demo the 765 and he will be hooked. |

| While the cab and creature comforts are a lot nicer on the 765, my opinion is it would not be a big enough change from the 55 to get rid of the 55 for a 765. On the upside, a 65 or 75e is a lot simpler tractor that doesn't have the computers and all the extra wiring to have problems with like the 765. Maybe have the 55 checked out, the implements you describe it shouldn't have a problem with. |

Walnut Grove MN USA | Got a 45 and a 765B. The 45 is turned up to 55 specs and that 765 will flat out walk all over that 45. At least 50 more horse and 10,000 pounds difference. Feels like 100 horse tho. |

SW Michigan | I've had them all, and currently have a 765, The 65-75Es are Bullet proof. I guess it would depend on what you want to do, as for which way to go. the 55 is a good tractor although the one I had at 5500 hrs I had to put $28,500 into the rear end to fix er back up, but I liked the tractor. The 75E was a heck of tractor NOTHING shifts better. And they have the K A S S stereo system, (Which stands for Kick Ass Stereo System) TRUE! it rocks, But the 765 is much more refined, better ride. comfort, ect..... Long and Short, If you want one tractor to do it all then I think the 765 is the way to go, If you want more than one tractor around, to get more done ect.. I'd go with a 65-75E in a heartbeat. our big puller today is a JD 9520T But we are Cat guys, so that will have to do untill we can find the right 865B... Now thats a tractor!!!! |

| Just fyi, a 45 has a 3116, whereas a 55 has a 3126. |

He has demo'ed both the MT765B and MT835 we have on my family farm. He likes them, but not the price of a nice one. |

The FIL is pretty wise with money, and he said he'd have to sell the 55 to buy a nice MT765 whereas he could keep the 55 and should be able to find a nice 65E/75E for for the money above the 55 to the 765.
I think he should get the MT765 myself, but I'm not the one strokin the checks. |

| Just got off the phone with the FIL and he has his eye on a 65E, so I have a feeling that one of those will show up this winter. Probably be a nice replacement for the White and the Steiger. |

Brazilton KS | I don't think there is a better tractor out there then an E model when it comes to getting work done and staying in service economically. A tuned 65E will do anything a stock 95 will do. The only real difference is a little more bore diameter. 55 should be playing with a 36' field cultivator. Really, it ought to be playing with anything that Steiger would pull unless he had a chisel which was too big for it. |

The hills and heavy soil don't do that 55 any favors. I do agree with him that it could use a few more ponies under the hood to pull what he has. |
