N/E Iowa | Dad and i was talking about getting a 6430 MFD, and maybe a loader for a chore trator. We currently use a 1967, 4020 that works fine but a cab, better hydraulics, MFD, and heat and air sure would be nice. I would be using it on feed grinder, manure spreader (tandem axle) hay mower 9 ft, V-rake, possibly a 468 round baler, running a 10X70 auger... running a rock picker in the spring. Tell me (the people that have them) the pros and cons of these tractors.... I realize they have a german 4 cylinder motor, Are they rougher then heck to ride in with that short wheel base? They should out pull the 4020 hands down?? And one last question how does the IVT work in certian situations?? seeing over the loader brackets a pain?? Thanks for any replies. Need some info before spending that kind of coin on a tractor.. Looking to give the 4020 a lasting vacation in the back of the shed for awhile! Edited by greenpower 12/21/2012 11:31

Rutland, Iowa | Excellent loader tractor, make sure to get one with IVT, TLS, and cab subspension, you will not regrett it. With the amount of PTO work that you plan on doing get one with the HD PTO option. I have one like that, it works very well replacing the 4020. works great on the snowblower also. As far as the loader brackets, with the loader off you don't even know they are there. A very nice tractor.

West Central IL | I just spent 2 hours pushing snow with my 6430 premium and I love it,mine is the 24 speed transmission. I run 13x71 and 10x71 swing away augers with it and run it on a batwing in the summer. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

denver, colorado | we have 3 6430 2 premiums 1 std, get a premium love ours, std NO POWER BRAKES can not believe what they can do. Make sure you get a 673 or newer loader, pipe in front between loader frame is lower, on 640 loader pipe is directly in line of sight. Have auto quad in two premiums 29mph 24sp. power quad 19mph 16sp. very nice loader tractors and they work very well for us as field tractors.

The Internet | I'm no fan of John Deere, but to say the Waterloo tractors are any better than the German tractors is rubbish, many even share the same components. They are both designed by Deere, both built in factories owned by Deere and both assembled by Deere employees, quite why one built in a country that is renound the world over for its engineering would be less good than one assembled in Iowa is beyond me. Were I in the market for a 4 cylinder loader tractor a Massey 6470 would be at the top of my list, but you don;t get them in the US because you all like big engines. Shame

Dalhart Texas | It is a 2010 model I think. Has the 6xx loader. We use it to shred, pull a 3pt 8 row vacuum planter with a 1000 gal fert trailer. Had to put some weights on the front but it worked great. Our has the RTK guidance. If money wasn't an object the IVT and suspension would be cool. Michelin tires are awesome on it. Only complaint I have is checking the engine oil behind the loader bracket is kinda a pain. But man it is a dang nice utility tractor.

NE Kansas | My experience is that the Waterloo tractors are superior to anything else that deere makes as far as tractors go. The red don't have resale after 15 years...

east central IA | We had one and used it for some of the same chores as you are. I was never a fan of the tractor it just did not run as smooth as the 7420 that we replaced with it. We thought it would manuver in tighter quarters and it did. Then in Aug. of 11 I was mowing with a 7ft. bat wing and put a rod through the left side of the block. Not a pretty picture! It was under warranty but because of over seas production it was going to take 8 to 10 weeks to get the replacement parts. Made the decission easy to trade to what I should have purchased in the first place, a 7330 premium. NO COMPARISON!!!!! It runs sooooo much smoother and the ride is soooooo much better. I spent 8 hrs in the tractor the last two days pushing snow and I must say it was almost fun! The 7330 premium is sooooo much better on the rock picker.

indiana | We use a 6430 premium for our research planter. A nice tractor but feel at high RPM levels the tractor cab noise is loud. Would definitely prefer a 7x30 series tractor.

I did a lot of research on the 6430s and 7x20 and 7x30s not to long ago. You can actually get a better price on a used 7x20 or 7x30 vs the 6430. All the cattle farmers, smaller, hobby farmers and their brother want a 6430. People hear the words 7000 and they think it is too big. I plan on getting a 7x30 myself.

East Central Iowa | Pro's: - good power (pulled 600 bu grain wagon in slight hills, but didn't set any speed records) - good hydraulics, hitch, 3-point, etc. - well balanced (we have the bigger tires with a little weight) - sunroof window is handy - we use it more than we thought - fairly quiet - when on auger running at 540 rpm the engine doesn't "scream" like on older tractors (this is without the economy PTO option) - cab is very quiet - is fast down the road (with auto-quad trans) - I haven't noticed any real rough riding with its wheel-base (not as smooth as an 8 series, but that is to be expected) - good trans (we have auto-quad) & reverser - very versatile (can use as loader, on augers, do some light field work, pull wagons, etc.) Con's: - not the best cold-weather starting tractor if you don't have it plugged in - visibility out the front to the loader bucket is not as great as we would like (perhaps due to the self-leveling arms on the loader - loader frame sits up a bit on the tractor compared to Deere's smaller series) - rear wiper/washer are not standard equipment (need to add as option) - may not turn quite as short as you prefer (if you are used to a smaller loader tractor) with MFWD - a few too many warning messages on its screen (if you don't put reverser level in N when you shift into P; start PTO while not in seat, etc., not a problem just a little annoying) - those little round lights on top of cab don't throw a lot of light if you work a lot at night - electronic joystick is a little too close to the seat for my preference (mechanical joystick may have been better)
