What is the good and the bad of a 460 combine? How do they compare to a JD 9660 for preformance? How is Ziegler in Columbus, WI for parts and service?

I have had good luck with parts and service.  I can't help you on the combine, but the field tech that would cover our area for Ziegler spent a lot of time at SMC in Point.  I'd say combines are his specialty and he understands the conditions and the area we run in.  J.R.

Not a lot of difference in the main parts between a 400,500,700 series. Most differences are cab, hydraulics, tank, big one is electronics. I ws told after buying a 575 that the 400 series got some issues in the electronics, I believe the word nightmare was used by the tech. Move up to a 500 series if you can. As for comparing to a JD in my opinion they are engineered far better but I think a 460 would be more comparable to a 9860 capacity wise. 460 is a walker machine and I have only had rotors.

I doubt that a 460 is comparable to a 9860 in size. Thats comparing a Class 6 to a class 8 combine. I know there's lots of room of capacity in the classes but thats a bit extreme. What does that make a 480 comparable to?

The 460 walker combine is a wide body machine, like the 480.

I highly doubt in your crops it is comparable to a 9860......   Capacity wise in corn, it could give a 9860 a run for its money without chopping corn heads, though I wouldn't bet on it winning.

We had a 470 for 3 seasons, narrow body machine with rotors.   That machine was close to bulletproof for us.

Aside from options than make life operating a combine a bit more comfotable, the 400 series is hardly much different than the 700 series.

The 585 will be pushing its 4th season, have a hard time justifying an upgrade for us.

Trebfarms:   JD makes a good soybean combine, if that is your main crop, ya might be dissapointed in the 460,  a draper from Macdon will make life much better if ya choose the 460.

Make sure it's had the update in the rock trap area. This update also provided a change in the preconcave area.

We use to have a 465. Which I believe is a track version of a 460. We had a problem with all the grain not getting threshed. New rasp bars and concaves didn't seem to be enough. But our combine didn't have the update done. The research I had done indicated that if the update would have been done, it would have made a significant difference with the problem we were experiencing.

Lexion provided the update free of charge at the time....years ago. Not today though. It's over nine grand in parts, as I recall. That, and a few other issues, it was enough reason for us to buy a 730.
