Lenawee Co Michigan | Not even 3 years and a big rip. I've been using a 5 x 10' horse mat from TSC to cover the pit. Nice and heavy, thick, doesn't sail in the wind but already rotten. This was never driven over, only rolled up a few times a year to dump. How could it even last a year under a horse with shoes? Need a 5 x 10' rubber cover that will last. Could rolling them up be the problem? We have two of them covering ours that look great after 3 years. I should add that I think ours are 3/4" thick, yours don't look that thick after a second glance. Edited by Smoothlander 11/17/2012 21:50

Lenawee Co Michigan | This one must be 3/8 to 1/2" thick. It's plenty heavy enough to wrestle around and never has any weight on it. It's rolled up to the side when the pit is open, yes, but this is just poor quality rubber I think.

Seaforth, Ontario | Are there any mining (or like) equipment suppliers near? I've seen commercial elevators use pieces of used conveyor beltng to cover pits.

SW Nebraska | Look for used conveyor belting. I found a place in Pennylvania online that cut and shipped my what I needed. it is 5/8-3/4 thick and we drive over it all the time with trucks.

NE Iowa | atlasbelt.com I bought a 9'x10' x 1" thick from these guys, I talked to Kevin. The cost was 125 for the belt 150 for shipping. Takes all I've got now days to drag it off the pit, I'd just about as soon walk across the road and get the Gator to do the work, but the boys can handle it... I'm sure they can find something for about any size pit and any thickness...

Slicker than a Yes album. | Find a dairy that maybe has a cow mat to get rid of. As FarmerFrank said, one thick enough it takes all you have to pull it off. Ours is 3/4" or so thick. Drive over it 500 times a year loaded, still going strong 13 years later.

Try going to one of the Quarry's and get some old belting
