| Wanting to mount an air compressor on our service truck (Duramax w/Allison). Is there a better option than a gas engine powered compressor that is just as economical ? |

Casey Illinois | All the dealer service trucks have the gas powered ones, we bought a Northern the other day, works good, 16 hp twin tank. |

West Chazy, New York | There are two options, but I don't think either is necessarily cheaper. One is to mount a good sized generator on the truck and run an electric compressor from it. The only time that really makes sense is when you use a lot more electricity than air. If you use impacts, the little electric compressors won't keep up. The other system is to mount a compressor to run off of your truck engine and mount an air tank on the truck bed or under the bed. It takes less room than a mounted compressor, but requires the truck engine to run whenever you need air. |

Washington Co Ks | Somebody used to make one powered by a 12v motor. It would be handy to pump up a tire now and then but I doubt if it would pump enough air for use on a service truck. I had a former highway department pickup that had an air compressor driven off the truck engine. It was real handy but didn't pump a whole lot of air. The bracket holding it was right on top of the gas line and when it broke it caused the line to leak and the truck burned up. |

New Brunswick, Canada | I've seen lots of engine mounted compressors but some motors/trucks you can't have room to have A/C if you do that. They make as much air as about a 5-7.5 hp compressor. I've also see big compressors run off transmission pto's or the crankshaft too. |

Tennessee | Why not buy a welder/generator and an electric compressor. |

Jackson County, AL | We just bought the $1700 Northstar from Northern and like it so far. Were surprised when it came with nowhere to mount a battery. We wired the starter switch off the fuel transfer pump and we think we actually like that better since we should never have to fool with a battery on it. |

Brazilton KS | Probably 75% of what you need you can do with nothing but a bigger tank charged by the truck brakes. We have big compressors on ours, but since hooking up so you can fill tanks on the way, don't use them most of the time. |

| We are constructing a 4x8' service pallet that can be set on or off our truck with our forklift. Our ton flatbed has a hoist and is very often used to haul mulch or dirt at a moment's notice, so we need a quick conversion from shop truck to clear-deck dump bed. We already have a Hobart welder/generator like pictured below, but wasn't sure I wanted it buggy-ridin' along all the time. Guess an electric compressor makes the best sense though.

N C Ohio | We just put a air n arc compressor welder generator battery charger from vanair on our service truck. Works great. Fits between the bed and only takes up about two feet of length. |

SE SD | We also put the air n arc on our new service truck. welder generator battery charger compressor on ours. love it. holds alot of gas. can run everything at once. Love the remote panel that you can run from elsewhere on the truck. |
