Pulaski, TN | I've got this BR780 that WILL NOT start a roll without the belts jumping over the top of each other. When this happens most of the time it pulls the lacing (alligator) from the belt. It won't start in small or large windrows, dry or damp hay. Belts were put in new last year, have less than 500 rolls on them. When baler is empty the belts track fine. If I am lucky and get the roll started, it rolls fine, puts up a great roll. I just can't relace belts every 8 or 10 rolls. This baler has really been dissapointment. I have always run NH balers and also have a 678 that has 15,000 rolls on the meter. I thought since it was good this 780 would be also. WRONG! My dealer says there is a baler expert at NH. Thought I would get some ideas of what might be wrong on here before I talk to him. Thanks!! |

Palestine Texas | I'm not familiar with NH but have has similar problems with JD and the old Hesston style Case balers. Both where because of starter roller. The Case baler had rubber flaps on the starter roller that just had to be changed. The JD balers have metal starter rollers, on these I just run a couple of sloppy welds on it to rough it up some. It doesnt sound like much but it really helps when your having trouble getting it to start. Im not sure how the NH starter roller is designed, hope this helps.

Pennsylvania | Yup every one is on the right trac. You could weld 1/4" key stock to the starter roll. Make sure there is no sharp edges for the net to grab the starter roll and wrap on it. Also check the slip clutch on the sledge drive. It's on the right side and has a short roller chain on it. I have seen chain oiler kits installed at the sledge drive chain. This will not work because the oil works its way into the slip clutch. The new BR balers do not have a clutch there anymore so just make sure the friction disks are ok and tighten the three bolts on the spring disks all the way tight. It sounds to me like the sledge is not working and the belts are doing all the work to start the core. I have worked on these balers for 12 years and our dealership sold as many as 75 round balers a year so there's a lot of them I have repaired. Good luck I hope this helps |
