Subject: Width of JD 9400 vs. 9500 for 4-30" corn head

Eastern Shore of MD
I'm looking to upgrade combines for plot harvesting. I've been told that as long as I stick with the 24.5 x 32 tires on a 9400 I can use a 4 - 30" corn head. How much wider are the 9500's over the 9400's? Any other recommendations for for machines capable of tracking behind a 4-30" head? I think we want to stick with a walker machine since we are running partially full a majority of the time and cleaning out a lot (100-200' foot plots). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Should be same width with same tires and rim configuration. 9500 is longer because of longer shoe and walkers.
9600 is the only one in the series that is wider.

I think a 9400 would be a tight fit behind a 4-30" head. The 24" drive tires run down the center of rows 1,2 and 5,6 on a 6 row head, so you would probably be rubbing up against the next set of 4. Could you run a six row head and work from one side of the plot, taking only 4 at a time? The 9500 would be similar, but really overkill trying to do what your doing. This job really needs a good 4420 or 6620LL.

I think 6620 Titan 2 1988 year was the last deere combine you could put 4row 30" corn head on

I agree that either machine is overkill. 4420/6620 isn't really an upgrade from the conventional Gleaners we have now. My dealer says a 9400 will fit, and a friend ran a 4-36" in front of a 9400 with 30.5's also thinks it'll fit. Has anyone actually tried it?

I may end up abandoning the 4-30" head in favor of 6-30" which would solve the issue,.but I don't want to limit the versatility of the machine for research.

Neighbor here runs 9510 with 4 row 30" head, think it has 24.5 tires and they are right next to unpicked row

I understand that a 4420 or 6620 is not an upgrade. However the 9400 would not do you much good for research unless you can load the cylinder of the machine. A walker machine must be loaded properly to keep it from throwing grain over. You will never be able to load it with just a 4 row head.

I run 4 row on a 6620 with 24.5 x 32 drive tires and they run pretty close to the next row.

I have seen a 4 row wide on a 9400 and have been told a 4 row narrow will go on a 9400 too but the wheels must be dished in and run tight against separator body which makes it a pain to work on things cause there is no space.
