Subject: Building a 15" Bean Planter

White Cross, NC
I got a friend that made a bean planter by using alot of Case IH 900 Plate Planter row units on a toolbar and he has excellent stand. I was thanking about maybe making my own 15" planter. I want something that will no-till into concrete, so i was thinking a Case IH 900 also because they are good no-till planters and also i cant afford to buy alot of newer row units, I know its a plate planter but im just gonna plant soybeans and milo, i have a seperate planter for corn, Also I want to build my own stack fold tool bar because they are very expensive and they look pretty simple to make. Just a thought whats yalls ideas?

Anybody know where i can find alot of row units to start with and maybe a older stack fold toolbar?

Thanks

If I was going to use 900 CIH units to plant beans I certainly wouldn't use plate units.

Go with the original bulk fill system, Cyclo.

There was a kmc stackfold bar in the farmer's connection for sale. I think going to a planter is a good move, the bean's that were planted here look better than the drilled one's.

Don't know about the stackbar, but the IH 900 are great units to use for a bean planter. I wouldn't use the plates, the boxes work great and with a 16 row 15" planter, two will be ALOT easier to fill.

We don't have it here yet, so I don't know if it will work. We just bought a 900 verticle fold, 12 row that were going to convert into a 15" to 20" planter. whatever we can make work. Since it has 2 boxes on it we can get 16 rows out of it. Not sure if that's big enough for you but those planters are pretty cheap these days.

My brother and I built a soybean planter out of a IH 800 vertical fold Cyclo planter last winter. We wanted 15" spacing and to have 2 30" skip rows for the sprayer to drive in. We decided that we were going to make it a 23 row, 15" spacing with the 2 skip rows. Total coverage came to 31.25 feet.

Each seed box will feed 8 rows, so we added a third seed box to feed the additional 7 rows.
