N/E Iowa | Been looking at a tractor to retire the ole 4020. Been looking for a good used 6420 MFD......But I see John Deere has a tractor thats similar too the 6420, looks to be 6115D. I don't know anything about these 6115D... If I'm leaning towards the 6420 MFD is there anything i shoud be aware of?? I found one (2004 with 2,700 hrs). It will be used to Mow hay, grind some feed, haul manure in the winter, and run a rock picker in the spring. |

Southeast Florida | I have several 6XXXD tractors, they are built in Mexico, very plain and simple. They have open center hydraulics and with a 9-speed power reverser. The 6420 will have PSC hydraulics and way more refined tractor. Personally I love the 6XXXD tractors because they were built on the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) theory.

Wallis, TX | We had a 6420 IVT, got rid of it, lot of little things, mostly electrical, always seemed to be wrong. IMHO just too complicated to be reliable. |

Ohio | We have a 6430 premium mfd. Been a great little tractor. Spends most of its time on the hammer mill grinding hog feed. |

South-central Nebraska | I was in the market awhile back to replace a JD4000 and 4555 with a larger utility tractor. I looked at the 6130D and although it was simple and had the KISS approach, I just didn't think it was that great of a deal for what you got. Made in Mexico, pretty plain cab, simple quad transmission, open cen hyd, 4 cyl engine, short wheelbase and cheap tires. It was exactly what I needed. But, when pricing upper end JD models and CaseIh Maxxums the price for what you got didn't compare. Ended up with a Maxxum 125 value that had a better cab, longer wheelbase, semi-powershift, 6 cyl engine, better tires and built heavier. I have had some troubles with the Maxxum, nothing major, but happy overall. Just another option to consider. All came down to price/what you got for me.

Manitoba, Canada | I have a 6420 with IVT, suspended axle, cab suspension and loader suspension. I am really happy with it. I did have a few issues with it at first. It would heat up pulling a load. Found out air gets trapped in the oil cooler and disrupts the coolant flow through it. It must have been a bit low when I bought it as I have never had to add any coolant since so it must have started out with some trapped air. The dealer had to pop a hose off quite a few times to get rid of the air. I also had a couple of injectors go bad just before warranty ended so they put on a new set. That was around 1200 hours. I now run fuel conditioner in every tankfull instead of once in a while. Since then it has run like a top and it now has around 4000 hours on it. Hope to get many more. It is used as a general chore tractor doing mainly loader work. Love the IVT for that. For general loader work and bale shredding it burns somewhere around 1.5 to 1.7 gal per hour, depending winter or summer fuel. I would not hesitate at all to buy another. |

Southeast Florida | What's the deal with that? I can buy them D series tractors under $30K loaded here. Our dealer brings in several hundred of them for sugarcane planting crews and sells them off at the end of the season with full warranty and about 500 hours. |

ND | Go with the 6420, proven tractor, nice to run and will have the closed center hydraulics. I would stay away from that taco tractor, CHEAP is what you will get. |

| just a wild guess, buy maybe not every dealer handles 100's of them. I could be wrong.... |

| You get what you pay for on these tractors. The 6420 is a nice and confortable tractor - a typical up-scaled Deere tractor. The 6D series is a very basic tractor to compete with the value-minded customers. It is a very decent tractor, but basically has cables and levers instead of sensors and switches. However, the wet clutch and Power-Reverser are nice additions. The open center hydraulics and stripped down cab is probably the negative side. Paint on the castings is not the typical Deere quality and it seem our friends south of the border have a hard time keeping the cab upholstry clean while assembly. Lastly, if you plan on installing a loader with grapple, be sure NOT to order the tractor with the loader ready kit installed at the factory. It is only available as a 2-function joystick, and to upgrade to the 3-function (for grapple), you have to throw everything away and start over. You cannot simply upgrade the 2-function valve up to a 3-function valve. My $.02 |

Somewhereville, Earth | isn't there a cheap mexican one available in red and blue in the US now i believe, based on NH grandparents, the TS6000 to TS6030 in blue, i don't know the numbers for red ones?

near dyersville iowa | I know the farmall line is now made in turkey..I dont know about the other red ones off the top of my head. |

Southeast Florida | Yup, the TS-6000 series is Mexican built. They're making a hi-crop version of this one too. |

Sw Mo | If you're completely torn between the two I'd lean towards the 6420. But if you're wanting something to replace your tried and true 4020 I'd be looking more at something like a 7210. I know it's a larger frame and possibly little higher priced, but it's a Waterloo tractor with a real motor 6 cyl. The small frame 7010s are a very solid built tried and true tractor, more comparable to the 4020s I would say. |

Fairbury, NE (Southeast) | agree, the wheelbase will be closer to the 4020, and a used one should be had for much less than 40k. |
