Devils Lake, ND | 4955's and 60's get a lot of praise on this board. Cab comfort and visibility out the front get knocked, but they're way better for seeing behind if you're going down rows. |

Ottawa, Ontario | We just got one this spring with over 6000 hours on it. Turned it up to 220hp and it ran like a champ all spring. The wife hauled a 30 foot, 6 bar cultivator with it and it never heated up once. There are a few shifts on the power shift that are a little rough but beyond that they are a very solid tractor. If you have found a good one, buy it.

thumb of mi | We have had 3 at different times. The mfwd can leak but there is a new seal set up that helps. When new they used some oil due to ring style. For the age it's a good tractor |

| Brake packs every 7K hours, hyd pumps every 3-3500 hrs. Good tractors, but not great tractors. Had enough of them to form a solid opinion on the matter. |

Southern Illinois | Bought one new in 1991, still got it. One of the best riding and simple tractors made. Plan on keeping it forever. |

Your moms house | Got to run one on the wheat harvest and was one of the best tractors I've ever ran, of course it was turned all the way up. :))))) |

IN | Check where the front axle pivots. Especially the front side.
If it has a a lot of wear and the grease channels get worn down the grease will squirt out the bottom side while the pin wears thru the bushing and into the casting. It will be behind a big washer and you won't notice it. The casting that is the front end of the tractor. Not good. But can be fixed.
JD said you are supposed to jack the front end up when you grease it to take the pressure off the top side.
Watch the water pump.
The door never did shut tight or right. All glass, no frame.
Was a good high hp tractor with a smooth power shift. |

South Africa | We've got a 4955 with about 14k hours, mostly in heavy tillage and airseeder work. Did the front axle pivot, three hydraulic pumps and one set of injector tips. Other than that, it's been almost perfect. I asked the same question here a few years ago when we bought it and we've never looked back. Powershift is rough, but you get used to it. |

Edwardsville, IL | We've got a 4960. The only major issue was the a seal that leaked engine oil into the tranny at around 4000hrs. The ride is great. I'd rather run it than our 9330 Case IH. Cab is a little on the small side. |

| I ran one for a friend. I thought it was a dog for power. We were hauling in corn so might not notice as much in the field. I would guess it was turning 225 . It just wasn't snappy like our 4450. |

West Texas | What were you doing with them for the hyd pumps to fail and the brake packs?
We had 6 of them in the late 90's and never had too many problems with with hyd pump and never had any brake packs go out. When we traded them all of them had well over 10.000 hrs on them. And all of ours had the pressure turned up to be able to lift up peanut diggers.

Jackson County, AL | One of my all time favorite tractors. Spent a lot of time on two of them, one with 38" rubber and one with 42" rubber. Taller rubber was faster but the shorter rubber pulled better. One was the first one to show up at the dealer at series change, along with Dad's 4255. Another was the last dealer sold before the 60 series. All three were good machines and I loved spending long days in those cabs as long as the A/C was working. They pulled good, drove good, and did what they were supposed to. |
