Subject: Opinions and experiences on NH TM120 or 130

Owensville, MO
Sorry about all the simple questions on these tractors. I know my older tractors pretty well but once you get into the 1990's and newer I don't have any experience with any of them. found a couple of New Holland TM 120 and 130 tractors and they look pretty nice. What's your opinions of them. Got a good NH dealer 6 miles from the house and 7.5 from the farm so parts and service would be really close and their service is good also. Talked to one of the owners today and he said they had some electical issues with the 83-8560 series tractors but not many issues with the TM series. Anybody got or had one.

Thanks

Joe

When NH and CaseIH merged they rebid all of the electrical parts like pressure sensors and switches to cheaper suppliers. So about that time many of these had failing pressure warning switches on the transmissions, faulty reading coolant temp sensors on the engine ect. I would think any of these would have failed long ago by now so you should be good.

The trans switches you had to pull up the cab floor plate to replace them. They usually leaked oil down the outside of the trans. NH's fix for the temp sender on the engine was to just replace it with the one that had been on all NH/Ford tractors since the 1970's.

I worked at a NH dealer for 10 years. The only time we did a mechanical repair to one was one had an improperly installed brake piston oring from new. Had to pull the axel housing and replace the seals on the brake.

For what it's worth......was looking for 100-120 hp tractor two yrs ago. Have a very good NH dealer close and a "OK" CIH close as well.

The NH dealer ( whow I trust very much) told me to avoid the TM series, and look for a TS. They did not go into exact details, but told me that the folks at the NH were telling the dealers to put customers in anything but TM because of the issues.

Ended up with a CIH MXU (NH TS series painted red) very happy with the tractor.

Friend has a TM140 on their dairy. I run it spring and fall when cropping and enjoy running it. Don't recall that they've had many issues with it other than the A/C has given up the ghost a couple of times and a few issues with the hydraulic remotes. Minimal electronic gremlins from what i've seen. Has about 3700hrs now.

From working in a NH dealership, we found the smaller horsepower TM's have been pretty rock-solid in performance, but the higher horsepower ones (TM190,etc) have given some trouble.
