| What is the pros and cons of a R2300 rake. Was looking at a wheel rake but these look better for moving and picking up hay, but more money then a wheel rake. |

north west arkansas | I dont know about a 2300 but my old r23 has been indestructable. I bought it used in 1998 and have raked several and I mean several thousand acres with it and have done virtually nothing to it. We also have a 8 wheel rake on a caddy, and this year we bought a 10 wheel hi-capacity rake but they are not near the rake that the old r 23 is. The thing I always liked about it was it didn't matter who was running it the windrows were always perfect. |

Sw Mo | If set properly a basket style rake ( new holland side delivery or Vermeer) will make a beautiful windrow, putting most of the green hay on top and the dry on bottom, square on top and sides, making a joy to bale hay. You might not be able to drive 10 mph with one and do such a good job but unlike wheel takes they won't swirl the hay into a screw configuration so to speak. Also won't drag rocks or clods of dirt in windrow because they aren't dragging on ground, if you bale much alfalfa they seem a lot more gentle on the leaves also.
Went from 3 past weel rakes to the r23 manual everything to a 2800 now. Wouldn't ever go back to a wheel style rake, granted they have there place, central ks in prarie hay infront of a 4x4 square a wheel rake might be better, otherwise doubtful. |

| Does your 23 have old style bearings .....or new 1 piece........I changed mine to 1 piece, stopped greasing 24 fittings...just changed them when old ones went out....will fit in same place but use a 3/4 x 4 fine thread bolt...in 7 or 8 years only changed out 3 bearings and mine sits outside all the time... |
