north west arkansas | I spray some helmquat and envive today and now I have a grease type residue in my tank, and I wasn't able to get it out. I was useing a 1 1/2 pint of helmquat, 3.5 oz of envive and a quart per hundred of 80/20, and 1 gal per thousand of interlock and was using well water. I did have about 30 to 50 gal of ru and envive mix to start with. Everything seemed to mix and spray fine but when I went to rinse my tank I notice it had a greenish brown grease type residue all over inside. I tried to wash it out and even put ammonium in it, and it helped but it is still bad. Any ideas what caused it and what can I do to get it clean? I sure hope the inside of my hoses aren't full of it also. The first picture is inside the tank and the second one is some of what sprayed out of my nozzles when I was trying to clean my tank. Sorry about the mixup on the pictures. Edited by wayneNWAR 5/11/2012 01:18

Qulin, MO | I remember last year that some AR farmers were having trouble when they used well water to spray Gramoxone. Something in the water was reacting with the Gramoxone and turning everything into a black sludge similar to what you are describing. They were suggesting that before you spray Gramoxone that you take some water out of your nurse into a jar and pour a little Gramoxone in it and let it set overnight or so and see what happens.

north west arkansas | Any idea on how they cleaned up the mess. I am needing to respray corn in a couple of days, and I am really worried about having problems with damage.

N.E. Arkansas | I was one of those Arkansas farmers that had trouble with Gramoxone last year. I don't use well water, but I did find out that Gramoxone doesn't mix well with Reflex, or probably a lot of chemicals. This year I mixed it with 80/20 and AMS and it pretty well did the same thing. We spent an entire day cleaning out the tank on our 6700 Hicycle. We took the plug out and power washed the inside of the tank until clear water came out. This took hours. Then we cleaned all the filters and screens. After that we put the plug back in, filled the tank all the way up with clean water and some nuetralizing granules (can't remember the name off hand.), adgitated it for 15 minutes, and then sprayed the solution through the boom for 15 minutes to nuetralize any chemical that might be left in the hoses. The next morning we drained the tank, put more clean water in, and then sprayed a small area of cotton as a test. The cotton is alive and well. It's a big hassle but less stressful than killing your crop.

"80/20" -- ? -- is this a crop oil, surfactant, MSO or what?

Minnesota/Kentucky fertility based on ENERGY | Generally speaking most chemicals are a acid or a base and it will take on or the other to clean up a mees like this, so on side of the pH scale generally we would look at apple cider Vinager for one, and baking soda for the other? You might need to go to a higher pH like muratic acid?

Lake Village, AR | Had this happen to me, the only thing that I could loosen the mess up with was gasoline. I still have some of the stuff in my tank after spraying 1000 ac.

Wallis, TX | Try dawn, I got my Gramoxone mess fixed with it last fall. Took about 5 or 6 big bottles of the concentrated Dawn.
