Subject: Agcostar 8425 Owners

Western Australia
We have owned an Agcostar 8425 for 5 years now has done 3200 hours . Engine is a N 14, I dont think any with the Detroit option came to Western Australia. We have had agood run out of it so far. Fairly basic tractor to work on and parts are readily available for driveline and diffs. Have just put a new hub axle seal in this week.
However it does have some traits that annoy me .When turning under load there is a driveline vibration, we have also just changed all the pivot uni joints.I have been reliably told by ex dealers that this was an inherant Agcostar problem.
We have checked the centre bearing and it seems fine, could they have designed a more complex centre bearing ?
The air shift compressor for the roadranger box will regularly blow fuses so now I have put a circuit breaker inline and an adjustable pressure switch, will see how this goes during seeding. How much air pressure does an 18 speed road ranger need to shift ?.
Local mechanic looked at the gearbox and clutch housing and said it would be a huge job to replace clutch. Service manual says to remove engine ! Surely there must be an easier way, maybe unbolt front diff an roll forward?
Would really appreciate any advice on above problems and any other areas that I should pay attention to as there arent that many Agcostars working in Western Australia and even less mechanics that know anything about them.

We had the 8360 model for several years. wasnt perfect but a good and simple tractor. We took ours to the local MF dealer to have the clutch replaced, there was also another agcostar there for a clutch replacement. Ours was done by removing the cab. the other was done from under the cab , I believe some special tools were involved.(homemade). and I do think they rolled front axle forward. good luck!

our guys built a track with a roller bearing system to slide the transmission back by going thru the hole in the floor.

Thanks for your replies. At the moment our clutch is fine ,pedal travel is good and clutch brake as well. I am just wanting to find the easiest way to replace the clutch one day. Our mechanic talked about a hole in the floor like the 4800 series Masseys but he wasnt sure if the Agcos had the same hole.
The cabs are almost the same between the two tractors. Benk8680 did you have to cut a hole or is there one under the mat and steering console? Was the roller bearing slide placed on the cab floor? Would appreciate any further info thank you.

Had a 8360, put about 4800hrs on it didnt have too many issues. One clutch which the dealer rolled the front axle ahead and one of the wheel seals was also leaking. Had issues with that stupid compressor also, never did figure it out ended up putin a breaker in. Times it would work fine and then all of a sudden it would trip constantly. One other thing that caused issues was the belt tensioner for waterpump but I ended up changing that around and never had issues with that again.

I do not know how the how Agcostar is set up but my 4880 had that problem and I welded the center plate solid. And made a sliding drive line from the bearing to the back and it has stopped the noise for the last 15000 hours. I did that at about 4000 hours. My other two never had a problem unless there was a driveline cross that was bad.

Thanks again guys .Benk8680 that would be great if you can send photos of clutch removal. Onion Farmer I have a mate with a 4800 that I think has done something similar. Smallchev did putting a breaker inline solve the air compressor issues? Thank you

It cured having to replace fuses but it would at times still start tripping constantly to the point that the breaker would get hot and finally I would just pull it. Then the next few days it would work fine. Tried replacing the sensor on the compressor thinking it was bad a and a few of the other things on it and never got it fixed. I always wanted to run a seperate power wire down to it but never did before we traded it. Almost need to check how many amps its pulling when it acts up vs when its fine. Maybe the motors have some issue with them.
